Contrary to most people's belief, vegas's goal isn't always to split the money 50/50

Sooo..let me get this straight. If the money is exactly split 50/50, Vegas is assured of a 10% profit. Why again do they not want this?

Maybe the juice is more. They may figure I'll get juice on 70% which outweighs the 20% difference. Just a thought.

It's the difference between public money and Smart money. If the line gets to out of whack to balance out the public money, then the smart money can come in with huge bets that have to be honored. Most of the time they do keep the wagers within a 60/40 split, but not always.

Ideally they would love a 50/50 split on a game with a hook (to avoid a push and spending alot of man hours refunding everyone's bets), but in fact that is not the norm. The bookmakers rely on their own info, and right now the pro's would have their money on Florida -6.

Either way the game still has to be played and LSU could certainly win.

That link is for ONE Sportsbook that sets its line based on the other sportsbooks. The line moves in one place and the other smaller books follow suit. That is why you may see more money on a team and the line goes the opposite way.

When the line moves in Vegas and the big offshore books, it is because the money is rolling in on a certain side of the game and they are trying to balance the betting. If Florida wins this game by 4, 5, or 6 the books will get killed
