I know he is controversial, but Dickie V spent an hour visiting with Patrick McSweeney and his family before a Louisville game last weekend. If you saw the game, you heard him give a shout out to Patrick and tell his story. It was a classy move by Dick Vitale.
Patrick McSweeney is close friend of my family - a 21 year-old student at the University of Louisville. Patrick has had cancer since he was 7 years old. That's not a misprint. He has beaten cancer 7 times and relapsed every time. He is currently in remission, but needless to say, the family is always on pins and needles every time he goes in for a check up.
My triplets were born in the same year as Patrick and they have spent time together through the years, even though we lived in a different state. Patrick is an unbelievably resilient kid who raises phenomenal amounts of money for cancer research through Raisered.org. Even though he is the longest known survivor of the heinous type of leukemia that he has, he still believes he is the one who should be helping others, and has raised 100's of thousands of dollars for cancer research. This kid is a stud.
frick Cancer.
