I also agree stats are not everything but just imagine Reid recording >31 Tackles For a Loss in two seasons..
To be fair, with tyrann at nickle, they aren't sending Reid as much as they sent steltz. And steltz is one of my favorite players.

Steltz was consistent, if not the most accountable player on that team. Reid has a bright bright future but wont top Steltz's numbers.
See above.

quote:Steltz coached on the field as a Jr/Sr leader. Reid was only a Fr/Soph so he was learning his role well as a follower, preparing to be a leader. Reid is also VERY intelligent and has proven he uses those smarts on and off the field. If Reid stays through his Sr year, he will surpass Steltz's stats...and I was a huge Craig Steltz fan.
Reid has more natural ability and is a better athlete. Steltz was more of a coach on the field, more cerebral player.

Eric Reid reminds me a lot of Malcolm Jenkins for the Saints, may not have the stats to show it but if you watch the games you know he may be the best player on the field.

Reid>>>Steltz by a mile!!! Reid will be a 1st rd pick after his jr yr....Steltz is a special teams player...Steltz was smart and a product of the system, Reid is a beast...not even fair to compare them, and I'm a big Steltz fan!!

Steltz got like half his interceptions against Miss St in 07

Do not belong in the same sentence. I would compare him to Eric Weddle.

Rewatching the BCSCG, he was the best player on the field for LSU IMHO.
Then you didn't watch Barkevious Mingo who played his single best game ever in that game and the best game of any Tiger. An eyelash away from a pick 6 that turns that game around and an unblockable beast in a game where he had his most playing time as a Tiger. Incredible effort wasted that day.

The ones last year when he constantly bailed out terrible coverage schemes by Gregg Williams and making the tough tackles in open space, just reminded me a lot of Eric Reid especially in the first Bama game.

So according to these numbers, Steltz is better than Reid. Yea... Im pretty sure almost all tiger fans would say that Reid is already better than Steltz ever was at LSU after this past season. Steltz was a hell of a player here but the system was set up for him to make more tackles and he blitzed way more than Reid. The system we have now is set up for Tyrann to blitz and be around the ball with Reid playing the true free safety and field general. Reid > Steltz and not really close actually.

Didn't Tommy Cassonova play S? If so, he has to be the best Tiger S ever.

Steltz was really good but I want to know how much he paid that scrub QB from Miss. St. to play pitch and catch with him in '07.

Just wondering what must Eric Reid accomplish to be remembered as one of the best Tigers of all time?
He could also be considered the defacto CCG winner by virtue of his Williams play.

didn't the majority of Steltz's INTs come at the beginning of the BCSNG season?
Give me Reid, the dude is a field general of the secondary imho.

I love ER, but he isn't better than Laron. LL led the 2003 tigers in tackles as a true freshman. Laron was the total package at LSU. He covered great and was great in the box.

I'm not a Laron hater like some tards on this board, but Steltz was better imo.
BS. Laron Landey is the best safety to ever wear purple and gold. People see him not covering well in the nfl and think that's how he was at LSU, which is totally false. He covered great at LSU.

Uh no. He took bad angles a lot. Just go back and watch Arky 07.
