I try hard not to impute character traits and values to those who are in the public spotlight. We never really know what is in someone's head, and their public words and acts show us only what they want us to see.

Insofar as Joe Burrow is concerned, however, those words and acts are what I'd want to hear and see from my own children. Burrow's Heisman speech was moving and obviously heartfelt, and his mention of Athens County had a major effect.

I similarly was struck by his comments immediately after the game. It was hard to hear in the Dome, but he thanked many people who often don't receive recognition including "the chefs." The training table staff has an important role in the players' health and nutrition.

As the father of a four kids, I want to make sure they keep that same mentality, remember to show gratitude, and be aware of their ability to affect other people postively.

One of the 2-3 police officers jogging off the field with him tripped and fell maneuvering thru the crowd. Burrow slowed down and turned around and asked if he was ok.
Small thing. But, how many people would do that?
He talks like a seasoned pro QB in his interviews. Puts the spotlight on others and usually those that would never get it. We'll miss a lot more than his on field actions.
