You equate playing Mett to giving up a chance to play for a NC, I think that's horse shite. Tell me this - how many LSU fans were screaming NC in August before the fight compared to now ? Very few. If JJ wasn't our NC QB in August, why is not playing him now forfeiting that same opportunity ?

You folks have some of the shortest memories I've ever seen. We are a far better team with JL, a better team with ZM and the same team with JJ.

As stated in the reference I used above, when Ro went down against Tenn in 2001, the entire Tenn nation said "oh we got this thing now" and the entire LSU nation said "oh shite".

And he won it with his legs, NOT his passing ability. Mett doesn't have that.

WHAT????

So are you saying that you would have been yelling national championship in August, before the fight, if JL was the starter going in, and Mett was the backup. You're good.

No, not at all. I'm simply saying JJ wasn't inspiring MNC thoughts before the season so not playing him now doesn't equate to giving up our NC aspirations. Read that guys response to my first post in this thread.

Throwing him to the wolves against a defense like bama is not the way to go about getting him experience. There are plenty of big games on our schedule left to not have to resort to him playing in the huge one. Not saying I 100% want JJ back but if he gets back it's nice to have the option (well, maybe not the option).

Mett should get his reps against the auburn's and Arkansas'. And of course significant PT in the kentucky's and ole MRS.

Please explain, coach.

Not many. Our offensive problems were mostly do to play-calling and lack of qb development. If we still had Crowton you would have a valid point, however.....

Most didn't believe the hype.

Again, please share with the class. I'm not at practice everyday, so I'll have to take your word for it.

Playing Mett is not giving up on our NC hopes. But I would prefer to have JJ available instead of Mett, IF JL went down. I don't really want to see a two QB system.

Best case scenerio...JJ returns as a backup and situational QB. Is not a distraction to the team.

I wouldn't rule out turning to him in special situations. He's got talent, just not the kind and consistency to retake the start or most of the snaps. IMO.

We're getting to the point in our schedule where we'll be playing teams that we will need to have a legitimate passing threat in order to beat them. We don't have that when Jefferson is in the game. He may be able to scramble, but he will not beat you with his arm.

I'd take my chances with Mettenberger.
Least we forget, Zach IS NOT a Freshman. The guy led a team to a #1 ranking and competed in a National Championship...even if it was at the Junior College level.
With this said, I'm sure JJ will be anxious to prove he's a winner and will give it his all.

I think we're in good shape no matter how it plays out.

Neither was Lee. What was that about short memories?

This is exactly right. If Jefferson comes back he will play. No redshirting him, no letting Mett take his lumps to prepare for next year. As soon as I saw Rasco come in last week and burn his redshirt I realized Les is going for broke this year. No trying to stockpile players to prep for 2012 or later. If you can play you will play. And I think that's absolutely the right decision - if you have a chance to win it all you don't worry about next year.

oh...so you want to go back to the JJ offense that has no passing threat....loaded with options.....and leading the league in 3 and outs....good post.

I would think having a discussion with JJ about red shirting if a situation does not arise where he is needed. I hate to see this turn into a big media deal. I wish this could workout best for all involved.

Half of them are painting his number on their arms. Highly unlikely that it will be some kind of 'distraction'.

I see no benefit to Mr. Jefferson playing ahead of Mr. Mettenberger, but the STAFF may see it differently. Hard to imagine Mr. Jefferson will be effective as a runner if he is not a credible threat as a passer. JMO.

He always has been a running threat for the two years even when teams know he can't throw. So what has changed?
