and that former Miles assisstants now coaching at different schools had told him how much Les cares about winning, but is still great to work for.
Even more reason to respect CLM, considering most former Saban assistants say the opposite about Nick the Dick....

i didnt say he is the reason miles is any good. I said the reason Miles is even talked about as a great coach is because of the situation Saban left him. He should be grateful. Otherwise he'd still be eating grass and making questionable coaching moves at OSU where no one would even see or care.
Miles.
Is better.
Than Saban.
in case you forgot your hero took a team with 4 first round draft picks and finished fourth in his own division last year.

1. LSU
2. Auburn
thats two. he lost both of those. in fact against Auburn he blew a 21 point lead, at home. What a coach!

That's not possible. Saban couldn't possibly lose a game against Miles, who cannot coach at all (or just minimally, because he's a good recruiter, but that's it - after all - Miles is out of Saban's players).

he still won 10 games in the toughest conference in the nation. They were a play or 2 away from beating both LSU and Auburn. The only team that gave Auburn a game in the 2nd half of their season.
actually looking at the whole picture Bama's season was probably more impressive than LSU's considering the way we played vs UNC, Tenn, and Ole Miss games.
anyone that thinks Miles is a better coach than Saban is a looney.

quote:then why doesnt Saban beat Miles most every year? if talent is roughly equal and then the only difference is coaching Saban should have a much better head to head record against Miles.

overall I agree saban is better but it's way closer than you apparently think. I think Miles wins at Bama this year too.

i agree with this part. the SEC west was loaded with 4 great teams last year.
and of those 4, saban came in last.

other than LSU, who lost by 7 at auburn, and Oregon, who was tied with 2 seconds left. So auburn won 3 of their second half games by scores of 7, 1, and 3.
other than that, good point.

There are things within a game that a coach cannot control.
Saban's resume' speaks for itself.
something i cannot get over with Miles is that he lost 5 games in 08, 4 more in 09, and should have lost another 4-5 last year. Yeah i am happy we won, but within the game, we deserved to lose. Luckily our overly talented teams won out against inferior opponents. I cant see how that doesn;t bother people, or how they get off saying "a win is a win", especially coming off the previous 2 years.

so when things happen "within the game" at bama, saban is still a genius, but they happen at LSU, it proves Miles sucks?

obvious things like the coach not knowing what to do at the end of the game vs ole Miss and Tennessee. Blatant coaching mismanagements that happen in high school, not in the SEC by a coach making 4million dollars a year. Calling timeouts after a turnover. Etc etc.
Simple quick thinking. Attention to detail. Knowing what you are going to do before the situation arises. I am not comfortable with Miles in any of these realms.
Recruiting? He's great. Preparing for big games, usually pretty damn good. Smoozing with LSU fans and being likeable, he's really good. Motivating his team, pretty good.
However the stuff above that set most great coaches apart from the rest; he's lacking. The Ole Miss debacle, ok, thats fine. Forgettable....Letting that shite happen AGAIN, against a horrible Tenn team that should have even been on the field with us, inexcusable. I to this day still can not fathom that went on a 2nd time.

drexyl, answer me this:
LSU is playing this imaginary schedule. We are playing Tulane, Vanderbilt, Southeastern, and McNese St 4 straight 4 weeks. We win all 4 games, but each game comes down to a FG late in the game to put LSU over the top.
How do you feel after these games:
A)cause for worry down the road
b)no worries, a win is a win. That is all that matters.

You can make a list of close games or losses against inferior opponents for every single top coach in America so no that by itself is not cause for concern.
especially when that same coach has hypothetically won almost 80% of his games while playing in the toughest division of the toughest conference in the country. hypothetically.

Coming off back to back seasons with 9 total losses in 08 and 09'?
And you want to tell me Weak sauce. LOL
You can't see what a disasterous 3 years we were on the verge of having under Miles? A lot which his incompetence was responsible for?
Like I've been saying, 2011 is a huge swing year. I hope he brings it.

Yea right. You'll just have to slightly change your argument.

Who have you been rooting for the last 4 years....LSU or Saban? Jus' askin'

When Miles beats Saban in Tuscaloosa this year I wonder what will have happened on the field that will be completely out of Nick's control?
Like I said I think Saban is better overall but it ain't by much. maybe you don't fall into this category but some who insinuate that Miles is sone high functioning ruh-tard that has lucked into winning 80% of his games in this division/conference do not have a firm grasp on reality.
