This is a great Thread guys! I like really good information like this!! I remember LSU winning the Double Header at Texas A&M but I did not remember how good A&M was at the time. Probably the best College Team to not win the College World Series!!

According to Bertman's book, A&M had only 3 losses on the season heading into that Championship Sunday.
As for the original post, this was last year in junior college. Pretty remarkable.
Howard Junior College (Texas) 63-1. They lost in the regional finals after winning 57 straight, but won the deciding game and then won the JUCO College World Series.

Some more information that is relivant is that the change in bats hurt LSU a lot after the '98 season. They went to a composite material insted of an all aluminum bat and also the bigest change of all was the diameter of the bat was made smaller. It gave the bats a much smaller sweetspot. That '97 team hit a record 188 hr's for a single season and it still stands today. I believe it will never be broken. LSU had 4 or 5 hitters that year with at least 20 hr's. Here is something even I found very intresting while looking;
Consecutive Games of hitting at least 1 hr
77—LSU, from June 8, 1996, to Feb. 21, 1998
HOME RUNS PER GAME
Season 2.69—LSU, 1997 (188 in 70 games)
Just thought I would throw these out there.

The sad thing is, our 98 team was proably better than our 97 team.

No it wasn't. Ever heard of a guy named Brandon Larson?

No man, was he a pitching coach or something?

Well he was on the 97 team but not the 98 team.

Even more than Hawthorne's call of Warren Morris' homerun in 1996?
I was watching that on t.v.

Percentage-wise, I think you'd be hard-pressed to top that 58-5 season A&M had in 1989.

I was watching on TV and was getting ready to BBQ in the backyard. I had the radio on outside. Just as I stepped outside, I hear Hawthorne going nuts! I run inside and see Morris pumping his fists rounding the bases.

if you factor in the level of competition they played, i'd agree.
i listened to that A&M final on the car radio of a friend in the Appleby's parking lot. that was my soph year at LSU.
