AP All-America Watch:
By RALPH D. RUSSO

LINK
The Associated Press has been honoring college football’s best with an All-America team since 1925. This season, the AP released a preseason All-America team and will put out a midseason team.

ON THE LINE
(ESPN analyst Cole Cubelic, a former guard at Auburn, identifies an offensive lineman playing at an All-America level)
Lloyd Cushenberry, C, LSU
The sophomore played great against one of the best defensive fronts in college football as the Tigers beat Auburn last Saturday.
“Was solid in pass protection, but kept leverage in the run game, helping to neutralize multiple future NFL defensive linemen,” Cubelic said

I don’t know what to make of Cregg trying to get him out of the lineup before the Ingram news

Good stuff. People have forgotten that the coaches were heavily considering putting Clapp at one of the guard spots and starting Cush at C as a true freshman. I knew he’d excel this year, because of that.

I don't know if this ever actually happened. Brumfield took a few practice reps at C but never spent any real time there. The imminence of that move came mostly from the rant (myself included). For all we know it could have been more about backing up Cush than anything.

Agreed, and also to create a competitive environment to push him to excel.

It was never about replacing Cushenberry. It was always about getting Brumfield reps as a potential backup.

The Rant followed its usual mass, know-nothing hysteria. If one fool says it, it must be true, so we'll all chime in.

I'm not sure he was. My opinion is that he wasn't in fact.

What we were seeing, and then being extrapolated into something else was:

A) Mentions of Cole Smith were motivational only. For good reason, his spring game wasn't very good.

B) People "extrapolating" Brumfield taking snaps. You always do this- you have to have a backup, at C, that HAS to be able to snap the ball. And usually, that's your most experienced OG, as long as he can snap, because of making protection calls.

So the idea of Brumfield taking snaps was no where related to wanting to sit Cush. In my mind anyway; it was SOP.

ETA: sorry, didn't read the entire thread Mr Wise Guy... my piling on with redundancy was unintentional.

That happens a lot in here,if a kid does not start his freshman year ,they just assume he isn't any good. And every new recruit is supposed to be better

Interesting observation because you know so much more about coaching the LSU O line than he does.
