In college, NO. Not "any" team can beat any other team. Appalachian State, a micro-dynasy in the FCS, beat a ranked Michigan team (that turned out to be a losing team by year's end) and it was talked about for a whole year (until they came to LSU and got stomped).

Why? It never happens. A below average mid-major will never, ever, ever beat an SEC school, not even Vanderbilt or Kentucky. The talent gap of size, speed, strength and skill is just too wide.

That said, any SEC school (even Vandy) CAN beat any other school (even LSU) if the better team falis to prepare and the inferior team prepares and executes crisply.

Vandy is no Georgia and, in fact, Georgia, if you look at them, is an LSU-light team. I just don't think Miles is going to fall asleep on UGA.

Didn't ULM beat Bama a few years ago?

ULM is still a FBS (D1) school, or they were at the time. And Bama was just "above average". Had ULM beaten a top 10...that would be something. AND...ULM got off to a 6-2 start in 2007, had a winning season and was bowl eligible. That doesn't fit any of the criteria I described.

New Mexico State? A bad Tulane, Tulsa, or North Texas team? That's what I mean.

Had GRAMBLING beaten Alabama, that wold have been the type of "never gonna happen" upset I am describing.
