re: Anyone wonder why we don't run any power or counter plays from the Pro I?

I started almost the same thread yesterday.... I think its because we have not had to.. Miles is keeping things very vanilla, very simple... stop us if you can, and nobody has.. I am sure we will see some variations of plays off what we have shown so far.... when we face Bama and beyond....

The only thing I wonder about, is why so many people on this board think they qualify as play-callers or coach's...can't you just enjoy the level of play of a GREAT team?...and let the PROFESSIONALS do their job...

It's not rocket science to see that with 8 in the box you might try something other than run between the tackles, especially with Shep and Ford.
Miles is plain stubborn, and it will catch up with us...

I also wonder why LSU doesn't run the old Notre Dame box formation... have JJ, JL, RR and SW all in the box formation , snap the ball to JJ he turns his back to the defense, all the other players in the backfield cut to him and he fakes it to all of them and then keeps it himself on a QB option run up the middle. I can't believe Coach Miles is not using this.

LSU doesn't run the counter-trey because the Guards aren't fast enough. It takes an athletic sunofabitch to get 300+ pounds from the G position all the way around the C and the T and block an OLB or DB at full speed in open space.
Between T-Bob, Blackwell & Williford, I don't think they could consistently be successful at this play.
Also, this offense is designed to dictate down and distance. A counter play is vulnerable to a defender shooting the vacated gap to get the RB for a loss. Any negative play is a potential drive killer for an offense predicated on rushing and play-action passing. ISO and back-on-safety schemes are more suited for an offense willing to take 3.5 ypc.

That's an excellent point. I like using counter if running predominantly to one side then countering from that, but athletic guards are a must for that and someone can shoot the backside gap. However, we might see this later. #HintHint

So we should we just sit around a message board and not discuss anything?
