Shaq wasn’t Shaq when he first got to LSU
He was 1st team All SEC his Freshman year. He also led the league in blocks and rebounding. In fact, he broke the SEC record for blocked shots in a season. He would become more of a consistent scorer in his next two seasons. But he was a force of nature from the very beginning.

You have a tendency to reflect on the Brown years with rose colored glasses. The “many” deep runs you imagine I see as occasional. DB never won a natty in 25 years and in fact didn’t get past round one with THREE lottery picks. I was here for everyone of those also as well as the Maravich years. You like to dis Wade on one win beyond the first but you know in your heart, or you should, that if not for lawyer’s bickering that Wade would have brought their deepest run at least as deep and probably deeper. Wade has been to a tourney every year he’s been here. Pretty damned impressive to open his LSU career with. How many did your Supercoach win in his first five? Or six for that matter? None. But believe it or not I supported Dale all those years and many more after. I lost that faith after the O’Neal, Jackson, and Roberts fiasco with very good reason. That’s when you question a coach’s win ability: at the twilight not the beginning. I’m not one of those that you like to say worship WW but I’m also not one to criticize a motivated fan base over what a young, intelligent coach is achieving at LSU. You should jump onboard and recognize what he has achieved and not insist on minimizing what he hasn’t achieved yet. Dale Brown would have loved to equal this early success.
