Alternate way to determine bowl games

Just an idea... a fan vote of who the country would like to see play each other in each bowl instead of specific conference tie ins would be interesting.
Any better suggestions?

Sounds great in theory until you factor in fairness.
A 6-6 team matched up with a 10 win team isnt going to end well. And what if one fanbase vastly outweighs the other in numbers?

The "better suggestions" would be to eliminate 12 or so lower tier bowls to stop teams with less than 6 wins getting in.
Or enforcing a rule of no repeats.

It would be easy enough to make the field eight teams. Simply shorten the regular season to 10 games as it used to be and use the two extra weeks for the playoffs. Stop scheduling nonsense games like Troy and Georgia State. All non-conference games have to be from Power 5 conferences.
Finally, and most importantly open the selection of the field of 8 to the public. Allow anyone and everyone to pick the top 25 game winners. The best 50 or even 100 pickers then vote for the field of eight. Good bye politics and mulligans for the Gumps.
