Thanks for starting this thread Displaced.
You have told me often about the gentlemen that were discussing Al and they are indeed unassuming men who would not embellish wantonly.

Geauxtiga, Remember well, How are all you guys doing? I thought J. Reed was still around L.C. last I heard which has been a few years ago. Not sure where Brunet is these days. Sorry to hear about your father, as the saying goes, you never know what you have until you lose it. I'm sure you are like us and really miss your father. There is no replacement!
If ever in San Antonio look us up. Thanks.

Oldest son here. We have only scratch the surface about my dad. There not enough space to tell it all. I'd be happy to hoist a beer with any of you and tell you a little more about my dad. I live in Lafayette, work in Houma and make regular trips to Houston. I'll buy the first round.

I also want to thank you for starting this post about my dad. This has been a wonderful tribute to him. Although he didn't talk about his football days at length to any of us, he was a true tiger fan. He asked my daughter to redo his scrapbook for him and she was able to give it back to him for his last Christmas with us. He was truly a giant among men. He was my hero. I am his only daughter and I miss him very much. Thanks again.

I did not know Al, but my parents knew him in Opelousas. I think you all are around the age of my brothers. We all went to Belmont. My dad was the old eye doctor that everyone in Opelousas went to see. He was across the street from OC. My brother is still at OGH.

Hey Frobic. Sorry to hear about your Dad. I spent a short part of my life growing up with you guys. You would know me as one of the Simon's on Jasmine. Nickname was "Buddy". I didn't know all these things about your Dad, but I knew he was a great father. I would also like to say hello to Vance and Al if ya'll are reading this.

Great Story and obviously a great man. I have not enjoyed reading the rant this much in a long time. These guys from the depression and post depression Louisiana were a tough lot. My father was of that mold and reading your stories of your dad brings back similar memories of mine. Thanks for sharing.

I work with Frobi and this thread has given me some insight to his family. Like him, yall sound like a great bunch of guys and a great family. I have really enjoyed reading this thread.

Hey Al, Big Fred here from OC class of `75. Really cool reading about your dad here.

i am actually moving back to Dallas area next week and would love to catch up with you guys for a steak dinner sometime on me. i would love to hear some more stories.
Hey, my Dad's not Al Robicheaux, but I'll stay at the Holiday Inn Express if you'll buy me a steak dinner.
In all seriousness, these are great stories. We seem to be very blessed here in south La. with alot of very tough, quality men.

Yes, J. Reed is in LC. Last I'd heard he'd taken over Gina's dad's carpet cleaing and was doing well.
Hey, we played Opelousas Cath. tonight and I was telling Bass I ran across you and the OC cheerleading sponsor said she'd gone to school with you and how you were a great guy...don't know her name.
I drink coffee with Brunet sometimes. We're fine.

I trained in alexandria about 3 years ago and worked with one of al's sons. This is one of the best threads ever on the rant. It makes a person realize how important family is in the circle of life.

Some threads are great to read and this is one of them.
I met Al in the early 70's when he had what is now called Kings. Later he went to Lafayette and opened a very successful truck stop that appears to still be going strong.
My experience with Al was that he was something of a quite guy but something about him radiated respect.
Spoke with him a few times when he got sick but for the short time I knew Al he was one of those guys you enjoyed being around and when his name came up on this thread you remembered instantly.

I have read all three pages of this thread, and enjoyed every word of it. I'm a little older than you boys, but I lost my father recently, and I had the same love and admiration for him as you have shown for your father. They had very similar backgrounds and it has been very hard for me to live up to his accomplishments, although he always made me feel very special. I can see you feel the same way about your daddy. God Bless all of you, and your sister.

His name was Mike Robichaux and he was a decent player, but not an animal. He is now a political activist in Lafourche Parish.

Al Robichaux was my dad. He played ball at LSU from '50-'53.Freshmen were ineligible to play back then, but dad started and lettered in '51,'52,and '53. He was an offensive tackle. He also played freshman basketball but dropped that after one year. Dad was a very tall man especially for the 1950's. His senior year the roster listed him at 6'4" or 6'5"(Mom has the scrap book). This made him the tallest on the roster. It hard to comment on my dad's "toughness", he didn't say too much about his playing days at LSU.
What's up Dr. F. Robi???
