I'm not a baseball wizard. Can someone explain how you can tag someone with a ball that is over the fence?

There's always extra balls to work with in that situation.

That assistant coach is the one that recruited Ms. Hemphill from St. Thomas More in Lafayette, LA and.....she is also from Louisiana(Notre Dame of Acadia Parish in Crowley). She was the best female baseball(yes, I said baseball) player I have EVER seen. She played on that women's pro baseball team that was sponsored by some beer brand for a few years that played against minor league teams. She was also a standout point guard for the then USL(now ULL) women's basketball team. A 4.0 student and a very fine young lady. Wish the Lady Tigers had her!

Saw that -- and I wouldn't be surprised if the home ump didn't whisper to the pitcher "hmmmm, she jumped over the plate"

I believe the way that was handled by the umpire was wrong. I may be wrong and she was out I agree with that part but I believe you have to appeal the play after the fact you can't just tag the runner with another ball. Maybe you can call her out for leaving the area before touching the plate. Like I said I might be wrong but I feel the whole situation was handled wrong by the Ump.

I remember that odd deal...she even came back to Louisiana and there was a big party for Murphy and her....then something happened...I never found out what BUT I bet many $$$$$ were involved!

In baseball in that situation you go to mound step off and appeal to the base.

Ok not sure what happened there she was not in dugout and went back to touch and got tagged by a ball that was not in play.

From an article that i read earlier today on that. Once the umpire puts a ball back into play and all bases have not been touched. She can be touched out herself.

Out of the two, I'd rather have Hemphill. Huge miss by LSU softball to let her get away.
