Meaning did it put us on the map as an elite program? What had we done prior to that for over a decade? Not much.. We were hungry!

2001 SEC vs, Tenn

The game against Auburn that year was amazing as well...starting off with a 15 yard penalty that led to an onside kick. (That year we lost to Ole Miss and then won 4 straight SEC games to win the west)...We made ATL with 3 loses...I didn't think that was possible. LOL

L Toefield was a beast! Davis was very quick..Reed was unstoppable. Davey had a canon and could make plays. Clayton was a freshman.. Faulk and James at LB.. Peterman on the OL.

Lav and Hill were on that team too.

Lot of great players

What stuck out to me was the intensity of the hitting from the defense and the overall excitement of the players and the fans.

Special times!

It was definitely the game that started UT's long and slow slide into mediocrity. Other than winning the East in 2007, UT didn't have much to cheer about after that game.

Yep. It's almost 13 years later and the Vols still haven't regained their footing in the SEC.

people often seem surprised to learn that LSU is number 10 all time in wins. the bad run in the 90's perfectly coincided with Joe Deans tenure as AD from '87 to 2000. thats not coincidence.

in the 30 years before Dean, LSU had 3 losing seasons. In the 13 years under Dean, LSU had 8.

and 2 of those winning seasons were '87 (10-1) and '88 (8-4), Deans first two years, before he had time to frick things up, so really it's more like he had 8 losing seasons out of 11.

then Mark Emmert (current head of the NCAA) became chancellor in 1999, and one of the very first things he did was start rebuilding the football facilities, and then he went over Deans head to hire Saban from Michigan State. Dean was replaced by Bertman in 2000.

and yes I get that youre talking about LSUs current run, but people should know why things went to hell in the first place.

One of the most fun games I've even been to in Tiger Stadium.

Our fans were so sick of Trev Alberts and the ESPN talking heads ranting about how good UGA was and how David Pollack's motor never stopped, blah, blah, blah....

I think it was the 2003 UGA game. That SECCG and that 2001 team are great but it was a shocker and LSU could not follow up on that the next season.

That UGA Game was the first top 10 clash in TS in a loooong time... the nation watched and LSU became LSU that day. A tough physical, defensive led gutty team that plays 'till the final gun.
