In about 6 months from Wednesday, you'll understand the answer to your question: why not number 1.

Speed, athleticism, he can make plays that the other LBs on our team can't.

You'll see this year now that he's moved from SLB to WLB, and will be playing every down instead of coming out a lot in nickel. He'll be the biggest beneficiary from Chavis.

What do you base this on?

He was a Butkus finalist as a Junior yet I feel like very of the LSU fan base even realized it.

I have to be honest. I really didn't factor Riley into this coming season very much until recently. It wasn't until I rewatched a few of the games from last season that I realized what an impact he had. I think this was due to the general poor performace of the defense as a whole. Not Riley's impact, but my not remembering him being a good player.

Oh there is though. Ware gives us another top 100 prospect. The fact that we are more likely to sign 28 than 25 at this point will also play a role.

Scenario:
Lache, Michael Taylor, Reed, would put us in a spot that possibly only Florida, Georgia, and Texas could match. That only puts us at 24 commits though. If we signed say 27 depending on who they are, could secure that spot. For example. Richard Dixon, Joshua Shaw, and any one of the d-lineman we are pursuing, i don't think anyone matches that. Florida would be our only concern. Keep in mind that under Meyer Florida has had problems keeping commits by NSD. Just saying there is a reasonable chance. One i don't think is that far of a stretch.

So some of our lower rated players would slide down. The more recruits the better.
