It seems to me that we do this all the time. And this new commit we just got out of Alabama, I was reading an earlier Auburn Rivals article and I definitely think they were going to offer. They probably still will. This guy met with Mahlzon(sp?) and had an assistant assigned to recruit him, but no schollie offer????

Why do schools do this? Why not just offer the in-staters that you think are good enough right off the bat?

Every in state kid that deserves an offer out-right has an offer in hand. If we have a kid that is more talented than those we are recruiting out of state, then they will get an offer. I think the whole slow play thing is just our perception. I think they slow play every recruit that they have questions about and would rather evaluate more. Remember the coaches do their own evaluation, they dont rely on any recruiting service.

Many are unknown before they show up at camp and properly evaluated...some of these unknown players may have better ability than those pimped by the recruiting services...

Its also easier to offer out-of-state prospects early on as an in to the program...Its better to slow-play the in-staters a bit instead of offering and not accepting their commitment right away if they are not high enough on the pecking order...

Oh I know that. I'm def not a star gazer. But I read Meat Market last year and even the "guru of recruiting" Big Ed "O" was slow playing instate kids at Ole Miss. Mississippi has solid instate talent but he was just waiting to offer them.

I doubt many coaches in their state want to go to a high school and pull an offer...You could probably get away with this in LA and MS...Not Arkansas for sure

What does that mean? Not enough recruits to do it with in Arkansas or not prestigious enough of a program to accomplish slow playing?

Maybe 30 will sign D1...We may only sign 6 of these, granted we are a bit shorter this year on slots...roughly 1/3 will come from the state of Arkansas...

Probably because a lot of in-state guys want to stay and play in-state so the school feels they can slow-play them and signing 3 in-state WRs early can hurt you in your efforts to sign that out of state 5 star WR.
