Was in the stands watching that game and that was one of the funniest games I have watched. The RB for u-high was a absolute beast.

Calvary was actually already in existence. They had dropped all but K-5 if I recall. At one time they had a football team and competed in LISA league with First Baptist and Trinity Heights

Calvary, like a lot of other private schools got caught up in the recession of the eighties and closed its high school. They were always strong in football and baseball drawing athletes from Woodlawn and Southwood districts. The school's location is a lot closer to southeast side of Shreveport where the money is, whereas Evangel is located at the old Shreve Christian campus on the west side of Shreveport. Calvary had two players sign with D1 programs. Weston Steelhammer- AFA and Daniel Fitzwater- La. Tech.
Evangel can't be compared to the Hester teams by any means, but still are good. They lost to Curtis this year in the dome and I believe 11 players signed scholarship papers.
Evangel is moving up to AAA and decided to end playing Calvary in all sports due to the heated nature of the rivalry. Truth told there was never any real vitriole reported, and some speculate Calvary was getting too competitive.
Religion, politics, and all the other issues aside, both teams and Evangel in particular have revived high school football in Shreveport. I have attended games for both teams and have coaching friends on both sides of the fence.
