West Bloomfield four-star running back Donovan Edwards has kept his nickname for Michigan football quarterback commit J.J. McCarthy a secret.

McCarthy's nickname is "Tom Brady," which was given to him by Edwards because he thinks the quarterback will grow up and have a career similar to the former Wolverine and six-time Super Bowl champion.

“J.J. is like Tom Brady in my eyes,” Edwards said. “It would be dope to play with what I call Tom Brady. That’s just what I call him in my head.”

Aiding Michigan's recruiting efforts, McCarthy has been in contact with Edwards since committing in May 2019. The recent IMG Academy transfer is a five-star prospect. He he is ranked No. 15 overall and the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the 2021 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
