Predicting the behavior of 17-18 year olds can be hazardous to your ego. This site is a good source of speculation. Some of the insights are interesting in the absence of real facts but to hang your hat on any of these decisions is probably a mistake. If someone wants to step forward and offer any information on recruiting, then so be it, but let's keep it in the context of the decisions of teenagers.
