Can he play defense and/or make tackles?

He's played some safety at Cy-Ridge, so I'd assume so. Apparently he's pretty good at reading offenses, but obviously there isn't too much out there on his defensive prowess.

this kid will be a champion during his time at LSU. as I reflect back on yesterday's game & this entire season, our team needs a leader. None of our seniors have stepped up to take over that role this year. We have our answer in Russell. I have a feeling that we'll have a team that we can be proud of for the next 4 years when this kid hits campus.

i have never said this before about an LSU player but i honestly think he will be a media darling

and i think that will make it possible for him to become the second LSU player to win the heisman

I really like how humble he is!

I was at that hospital earlier this year for nearly a month.

This guy is a cant miss success. There is no way he will not be a Superstar for LSU. The SEC is gonna hate this guy..but respect him for at least the next 3 years...

I work with a guy that was a high school football coach for over 30 years. He told me the other day that he saw Shep on a sports channel on satellite tv. Said, "Dang, he is unbelievable and so fluid and smooth! He is the by far the best high school athlete I have ever seen!" Obviously the coach was blown away. Can't wait to see what this kid can do. His coming in January is a big plus.
