With the 144th pick in the Tigerdroppings Recruiting Board Mock Draft, OBUDan selects:

Demetrius Wright

With DBs flying off the board, I needed to secure myself at least one cover corner. Wright has the size I covet (6'1, 185) and while many think his home is at safety, I like his size and athleticism to be a big, physical corner on the outside. He's got great wing span to press receivers at the line and the speed to play bump and run. He's got the height and jumping ability to match up with bigger receivers. Like Dorsey, he could play S or CB, so I'll see how the draft shapes out to determine that.

With the 145th pick in the Recruit Mock Draft, Suntiger selects Texas defensive tackle Ashton Dorsey.

I was really hoping to land Brent Benedict at OT, but with him off the board, I went to the other side of the ball and selected a very talented player who I see UT using in a lot of diffrent spots and situations. He's a bit small and going to a team who is stacked along the defensive line, but his speed and skill set should allow him to see the field after a redshirt year and he should be relied upon and have ample opportunities as a Jr and Sr as UT has already wraped up most of their 2011 signing class with no similar DTs. Ashton will add to a very fast and athletic definsive front with previous draft picks Christian Jones at DE and Josh Shirley at OLB.

It has been funny to see how this draft has shaped up. In the 3rd round, a couple picks before mine, I made a top 5 list that looked this:

1. Khairi Fortt, LB (I was able to get in the 3rd round).
2. Curtis White, TE (I was able to get in the 4th round).
3. Justin Hunter, WR
4. Brent Benedict, OT
5. Mike Hull, LB

In the 5th round my list looked like this:

1. Brent Benedict, OT
2. Nick Forbes, LB (Guy I took in the 5th round)

I was afraid of the LB depth and jumped Forbes over Brent. So a guy I would have been happy to get with the 73rd pick, had 64 other players taken before him and fell just 6 picks short of me being able to get him in the 6th round. Things like this has made this very interesting. It is just going to grow from here too as we get deeper.

I knew who Justin Hunter was but really had not seen or heard of any of those other guys before. Because of this draft though I had studied all of them, they were all on my list as some point and I will probably pay some attention to them now. For example, I still think White ends up at DE <see, who would have thought I would have cared about a TE/DE from the Pac-10 >
That's one of the reasons I like this draft idea.

That's why I love mock drafts. You start to have a vested interest in players you never gave a second thought to before.

When I do NFL mock drafts it's the same way. And 3-4 years after the fact you'll see one of them pop up with a different team and remember the draft and say, "Hey, I know who that guy is."

Benedict suffered the Georgia injury curse before he even got to Athens. Major ACL injury last October scared me off picking him this early.

Take it from me. Don't tell anybody outside of the RB that you are doing this. It confirms that we are the 27 biggest football nerds in the world. I am having a great time with it. I just wish people would stop taking my guys in this round.

It's possible but the more I read about him and his basketball ability and other things, I choose to ignore that possibility because he sounded very much like a Tony Gonzalez.

I don't know about you guys but since recruiting tracking got big I would occasionally check on some guy from the SEC or ACC that seemed to come out of no where his soph or junior year only to find he was a high 4 star and rated like 63 in the nation but LSU didn't recruit him at all so I didn't know who he was till then. Of course if LSU did or didn't recruit them I knew the big 20 recruits or so but some of those second level guys I hadn't heard of.

It almost pains me to type this for fear of going down this road, but I am so sick of the Rant and every other thread being about the coach staff. It doesn't matter what side you are on it is just tiring. I would avoid the web site totally for days because of it or just go to the fark board to have a laugh until this came along and has been a safe haven away from all that stuff for a while.

This.

That is why I don't care if this thing takes until next NSD to finish.

Crowbar,

I didn't mean on other boards. I was talking about in real life! Especially not your wife. My wife thinks I am working on important shite when I am trying to find out who Rivals thinks the "Most Athletic Athlete" is.

What do you guys think we should do about Enfuego's players? He's posted on several other boards but hasn't come back over here, so he's obviously done with this.

It doesn't seem fair to me to just release them into the pool again because naturally the next few teams would just gobble them up.

But if everyone agrees with that, I will do it.

Just keep them on his team and his team will just be incomplete. Wouldn't be fair to let other teams have them.

Pasty,

Good point. At work I have another guy that is heavy into recruiting and everything LSU and we have a guy from Alabama that is our equal as a Tide fan. When the 3 of us get together we clear rooms. I was told a couple months ago by someone: "So let me get this straight, you are into following the athletic performance of 17 and 18 year old boys?" Then yesterday I asked the Tide fan if he really thought Philip Sims was going to be the answer for the future of Bama football at QB. Somebody else asked Phil Sims has a son playing at Bama and he is a big time LSU fan.

What bothers me though is that a girl at work claims to be a big LSU fan. She goes to a luncheon last season and comes to work to tell me she meet some old guy that she never heard of that was supposed to be good for LSU a long time ago. Some guy named Y.A. Tittle.
