That is what I was getting at. I don't see LSU really going after anyone in Texas hard this year that we don't already have covered in the state.

Randle is the exception, he was a need we can't fill in LA and LSU got him committed.

You could say its because we don't have Porter too...that is why we weren't on anyone hard in Texas. Next year we'll see. Louisiana has a few studs but its not overloaded like this class is.

Texas should be our number 2 priority no matter what the circumstaces are. LA. won't be as loaded next year and we will need Texas.

This points up that LM has no big picture strategy. he changes from year to year and from coach to coach.

one thing that should "NEVER" change. its LA first and Texas second and LM must remember this when hirig.

Finally, LA is loaded with elite players from 1-7 but after that LA is good but lots of texas players are as good or better.

Hope I didn't come across as saying that recruiting East Texas is not important. I just think if we can start to make serious headway with top guys in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida then I don't think we'll have taken a step backward with recruiting.

This year is especially odd since there are 12 Lousiana guys (at this point) in Rivals 250. IF we sign all of them we only have room for 10-15 on top of that.

I think we'll see more where we stand next year as well. I would have liked to see a new staff hire with a better relationship in Texas as well but I wouldn't have given up Wilson or Gonzales to get that. Ensminger...........well, yeah probably.

I just don't think the sky is falling if we shift eastward like some of ya'll do. I certainly prefer recruiting the Carolinas and the northeast to messing around in California. That I do feel staunchly about.

In the 250 chat the mentioned about 8 QB's that didn't make it but that were "ones to watch"...Zach Oliver was listed.

no one said the sky is falling but it'd be stupid to give up or de-emphasize a recruiting area like E TX for an area that's further away and thus more difficult to pull in top talent. With as loaded as FL is this year, even Gonzalez doesn't have LSU as the favorite for any real big players right now.

I was just referring to Larry when he boldly shouted that we miss Porter. I personally feel like we really upgraded with the staff that we have now. I will gladly admit I was wrong if and when I have to but I don't think we will miss Porter that much.

As far as FL with Gonzales, I think we need to get into the season and play well before we see any significant progress there. We're certainly in serious consideration for quite a few guys. And Gonzales has real and legitimate connections (with Boone's coach for example), and if we hold up our end of the bargain this year, I think we'll start to see the fruits of that.

Don't quote me on this because I'm going from long-term memory but I believe it was Chavis. He doesn't have a recruiter listed on Rivals but I think I remember Chavis being the one.

He's generally the guy on LBs no matter where they are geographically I believe.

that points up another problem area in recruiting. wilson is tied up in south LA.
scout had LSU with over 20 offers to florida guys and only 10 in Texas. I don't see how it makes sense not to go after Texas.

Gonzales is tied up in Florida (wilson in south LA) and no seems to be able to recruit outside of their geographic comfort zone.

for instance, last year McCarty got us a top 50 commit from Hunter (Virginia) and a top 25 commit from davis (dallas). no one on this staff appears to be able to do that.

granted we didn't sign these guys and we can argue as to why.

Randle not being in the 250 is a joke.
