Everyone’s favorite topic and before folks say anything, no we shouldn’t fixate on rankings but undoubtedly the conversation will come up, so getting ahead of it.

Regarding on3’s rankings, regardless of what happens today with Meadows and Antoine, we’re staying in the #3 spot (unless UGA has some massive commits).

Before everyone melts about why that is, on3’s current rankings are based on the average rating of the top 16 players in the class. So while LSU has a better average for the entire class, Ohio St and Bama have a higher average in their Top 16.

If we keep reeling in highly rated guys, the whole thing will shift b/c on3 will also start including more recruits in the ranking average.

Edit + TLDR - we have a fantastic class going so the exact rank doesn’t really matter until the classes are finished.

Really excited for this class, and the momentum of how they finished last year's class, on the oline and dline... with an entire defensive staff departing.

Heck of a job by Kelly and the staff that stayed. Momentum starting to roll with the new coaches too. Fun times ahead for the program

Rankings will adjust by year end... and if we're having top 5 gripes, fortunate place to be. Great points made op

Thank you sir - completely agree with you. This staff (coaches, recruiting staff, everybody behind the scenes) has totally shifted the narrative around “BK can’t recruit” and all the other BS. And I love it.

The rank doesn't really matter anyway as it's objective. It just gives people the idea of where classes are, and I get caught up in it too. I'd rather have slightly flawed rankings than none at all. As long as LSU is where they've been under Kelly (top 7) I see no reason to get bent out of shape. Especially with the portal, there's always the opportunity to backfill now.

If your class average over a rolling 4 period is say, top 10 you should be competing for a playoff spot. If the average is top 5, you should be competing for undefeated seasons and championships.

By the time Kelly has his 4th class, we should be competing for #1 seeds, first round byes and be among the top 2 or 3 teams that are predicted to win the Natty.

Based off of On3, Kelly's first class was 12th, his next class, 2023 was 5th, last year, 2024 was 7th, and this year's is at 3rd right now. Next year Louisiana has a historic level of talent in state as well, so while the jury is still out on this years class it certainly appears that our beloved Tigers can end up at 3 when it is all said and done.

There is also an eternity between now and the 2026, however, with there being possibly 5 5 stars in the state of Louisiana that year and the continued trajectory of the program, its hard to imagine not matching or even exceeding this years class as going down as the greatest class LSU has ever put together.

So taking those years and averaging them out over the mean would put LSU recruiting at #6, which obviously would put the roster in a position to compete for Championships and undefeated seasons.

LSU Under Brian Kelly is 3 years in and is well on it's way to becoming the premier program in the country. Had he made a few different decisions when he was first hired (Corey Raymond, Blake Baker etc etc) we could actually be ahead of schedule, but as it stands Kelly's 3 year plan is well on its way towards competing for championships year in and year out.

There is some truth to the rankings. The teams that are regularly in the cfb playoffs(top 3) have top 3 rated classes just about every year. Bama, GA, and OSU are always up there.

Yea, I think now with the playoff expanded, it adds more potential for other teams to close out the year on top, but that's another discussion. Also, those teams are consistent, as there is a handful of teams that usually round out the top 10 every season, their rankings are consistently around the top 10, but not as consistent as those teams are top 5, if you follow what I'm saying.
