It is only La. kids being re-evaluated because they don't have the big names or the reputation like the Phil Pressey's, the Ralston Turner's, the Tobi Oyediji's and kids like that. LSU is recruiting now, by star rankings, not necessarily talent. Whether you want to believe that or not is on you, but they are recruiting kids off name only, not by talent. Several of the kids they are recruiting, our La. kids have already proven themselves against.
It seems as though they've stopped recruiting Tobi. I think that you are making generalizations which you have no room to back up.

I too have seen eackles play numerous times, but have you watched him last summer/spring circuit or this season with Hargrave, he isn't the same type player as he was in HS. He is alot more mature physically and mentally, a better defensive player, more physical, stronger, smarter, and alot more athletic. He is an SEC player, just ask Marcus Thornton, Tasmin, Temple and them guys, they will tell you the same. he has played pickup with them in "the dungeon" several times and either held his own or did better then each of them. Also, ask Lance Stephenson who Eackles put 28 on last Spring in the Real Deal on the Hill tourney in Ark. The kid can play, all of your assessments are based on HS, not on the national stage or national prep school circuit which is A LOT more credible then HS.
And you think Trent Johnson doesn't have this same information? I'm betting he has this information and a hell of a lot more to make a decision around. Not to mention, if Hargrave for basketball players is anything like that for football players, there could be other problems, particularly in the classroom that would merit some consideration.

They haven't stopped recruiting Tobi, he just doesn't want to go to LSU anymore. He is getting more interest elsewhere. Which I don't blame him.

Well I can say Eackles is qualified with a high enough ACT score and all the requirements to be ready. Ledrick is better then a couple of current tigers right now. I am not trying to sell Eackles to LSU, but I just think they are making a mistake by not offering him. It is on them though, I won't lose no sleep over it.
And I am sure Trent has the same info seeing that Butch was in attendance at that game before he took the Ok. St job. LSU's recruiting right now of the 2010 class just isn't making sense. You have the players in your own backyard in what may be the most talented class this state has had in a LONG time, and you aren't trying to take advantage of it? They will come back and bite him if he don't get them.

You make it sounds like TJ is not recruiting LA kids at all. If he was only going by name and star rating, you would have atleast heard those players say we offered even if they are not interested. I have not noticed that happening. Most schools throw out a wide net to see how interested recruits are.
Pressey= pure PG. What players in LA fits this?
Turner= 6'4-6'5 SG that can shoot the 3 and create his on shot. What players in LA fits this?
Oyediji, Courtnrey, and White= 6'8 very athletic PF that's needed badly in the SEC. What players in LA fits this?
It looks like TJ is going after the best PLAYERSSSSSS that fits what he want at each position, not names and ratings. The players in LA that fit what he want has been offered or being evaluated. He has to recruit more than one player per position, so could it be that he is actually doing his job the way HE think is best? Relaxxxxxx, everything is going work out for the best of LSU.

So more interest elsewhere and no contact froim LSU in a while constitutes heavily recruiting him for LSU? Didn't you just say they were recruiting out of state players harder, including Tobi? Well, it doesn't seem that way.

And yet, Galloway has St. Joseph's leading the pack. His decisions make about the same sense as our recruiting strategy if what you are saying is correct.

First, he doesn't need to recruit Pressey, he has Bo Spencer for 2 more seasons, and when Bo graduates he can get Nick Syrie from just up I-10 in Lafayette as the PG for 2011-2012 season when Bo is gone. Also, Galloway can play the PG spot. Then at 6'4"-5" you have Brian Williams or Ronald McGhee or Markel Brown, I could name several more. At 6'7" because Jalen Courtney isn't 6'8", you have Derenbecker, White who is already there(Louisiana Kid), and then you will still have Dennis Harris or in 2011 you can get Tre Drye from Glen Oaks. Baton Rouge kid. And then for a big, he doesn't need to recruit one for next season, but if he does, then yea recruit outside the state for a Big, but everything else you got in state. The only thing La. never has is a legit center with the exception of Monroe last year and then he was a forward but was 6'10. Trust me, anything you ask me, I have an answer for on their recruiting. They could easily win with just La. kids. There is also a 6'8" kid now that is at Acadiana Prep named Brandon Alexander that nobody knows about. He is a sophomore, people will know him shortly though. La. is full of kids, we just need one thing in this state and that is a damn good 6'9-6'10 kid. Other then that, we have whatever LSU needs right here.

Yea I said that, but if a kid isn't considering LSU hard like he was 2 months ago then either they arent recruiting him hard like they were, or his stock is rising and bigger and better schools are on him. And yea they are recruiting out of state kids harder, what makes you think it doesn't seem that way? Just because a couple of recent articles? I get alot more scoop from these kids then you people know, I am just limited on what I can say so I don't say too much.

What I'm saying is, to ONLY recruit LA players is not smart.

Your logic on that post is showing your lack of knowledge, Galloway's mom is from Philly, his uncle is on the St. Joe's staff, he goes and works out with his uncle every summer, of course wherever his uncle is at would be leading the pack especially when you have a coach the caliber of a Phil Martelli who IMO is better then Trent.

You keep talking up the 2010 class from LA, but who are these excellent prospects? As far as I know, there is Langston Galloway, Matt Derenbecker, and Brian Williams. Also Pat Swilling's son seems to be a decent prospect. However, none of these guys are elite national prospects, and Galloway is really the only big name in the group (and he is overshadowed by at least 10 guards across the country).
Unless I am just completely unaware about some players, I don't think that the 2010 LA group is the most talented group in years by any means.

I understand that, he doesn't need to recruit just La. kids, but he does not need to take them for granted either. Just because these kids are born and bred in the state don't mean they will go to LSU if you recruit them late in the process, it is a process not a last minute deal.

Recruiting is a two-way street. Recruits can't expect to flirt with the Big East and ACC, etc., and not expect LSU coaches to flirt with out-of-state players.
One solution for Galloway, Williams, etc: Commit to LSU right now. If they are not prepared to commit, don't expect LSU to commit to them.

One solution, have LSU recruit them a little more like they are slowly doing again, and maybe you will get a commitment.

We keep talking about the 2010 class because this is the recruiting class that they are focused on now. Yea there are guards around the country better then Galloway and Williams and others but the fact is, you don't have to always recruit the better players to get to a final four, I mean our kids in 2006 in the Final Four weren't better then them players they beat on that run, they just had better chemistry and played the game together and with a lot of effort and chemistry.
Posted on 5/5/09 at 1:46 pm to UNCTarHeels
I understand why we are talking about the 2010 class, but I said I don't understand why you are talking them up so much because there are essentially four kids and at least one of them (Swilling) is a marginal prospect for the SEC. If Galloway, Williams, and Derebecker is the best class to come out of Louisiana in years, that says a lot about the state of high school basketball in LA because there used to be true blue chip players coming out of this state not too long ago.

Last years class with Monroe had much higher rated players than next years class. I guess he means the class is deep with average talent while last years class was more top heavy then a big drop off.
