Texas picks its players that they want to commit to the University of Texas. I don't think for one minute that UT did anything Mrs. J-mac said. She sounds like a woman trying to hold on to her "meal ticket".

Could be wrong but I could of sworn I read that as a NCAA rule.
you're prolly thinking of the Colorado scandal a while back. the ncaa did ban the use of "hostesses" in the recruitment of athletes in the wake of that scandal.
i think, but am not sure, that now only current athletes or current students in general can play host...the schools prolly define them as ambassador's. idk. it's all semantics, i guess.

Didnt the Colorado incedent involve call girls?

I'm pretty sure LSU is in violation simply from the female host part. If it is true of course.
It would be against the law if LSU did not allow female host, something called gender discrimination.

So she can't shake your hand, pat you on the shoulder, etc.
I don't think perching on a knee in a crowded room is exactly like a lap dance, do you?

Well, if it isn't a rule, Auburn would definitely be at a disadvantage compared to other schools then.

Colorado recruiting violations/team scandals generally involved allegation of rape which were never prosecuted by the DA's offices. There were also allegations of using strippers to recruit and an allegation of rape/sexual assault of a player, who happened to be a female kicker. Gary Barnett made disparaging remarks to the media about the athletic ability of the female kicker which was the final nail in the coffin for his days in Boulder.
Another interesting scandal of note is the SMU scandal of the 80's where allegedly SMU coaches and recruiting personnel hired soroity girls to sleep with recruits.
To my knowledge there are no NCAA rules banning prospective student athlete interaction with members of the university community, save the inordinate amount of rules regarding a coaches' ability to initiate contact with prospects. Such interaction is natural and part of the process of becoming acquainted with the university, its people and its culture.
The allegations by Ms. Adams are very serious, the NY times story was written with a slant but all allegations were not made by the writer, he merely reported what Ms. Adams alleged or what J-Mac wrote in a school paper.
The NCAA opperates under the principle of self governance. People may be familiar with a university's compliance office, this office is required to investigate any credible allegation of NCAA rule infringement. The NCAA rule book is approximately 700 pages or minute font, crowded with regulations. Virtually all compliance offices take their jobs very seriously and investigate allegations generally in good faith. However, they are funded, paid and resourced by the University itself. Arguably, within each university and its compliance office exists a conflict of interest. Additionally, the NCAA does not have subpoena power, it cannot force individuals such as Ms. Adams to testify or even to speak with investigators. The way the NCAA generally gets its information in recent years is through official investigations by law enforcement, such as in the Colorado scandals, all information regarding the Colorado football program was gleaned from reports generated and compiled by police officers and the District Attorney's office. The information, in the Colorado case was inadequate to charge any individuals criminally where prosecutors must prove such charges beyond a reasonable doubt. An NCAA violations hearing is not subject to such a high burden of proof, I have yet to get a straight answer as to what burden of proof must be carried to prove an NCAA violation, but it is much more akin to a preponderance of the evidence (i.e. more likely than not).
The NY times story was sufficient to spark an investigation by the compliance office within the Texas Athletic Dept. If such an investigation turns up some credible evidence of a loan or promises then Texas will recommend a sanction which will likely be ratified by the NCAA. If the NCAA is unhappy with the efforts of Texas' compliance office it can launch its own investigation which will mean stiffer penalties should any information turn up.
All in all, I'm willing to bet Mr. Muschamp (sp) may be anointed the chosen one sooner than expected.
I liked the part of the article which referred to Les Miles as dry. Being dry may or may not be an NCAA violation depending upon interpretation of the afore mentioned rules.
Sorry about the length, but it is important to understand the process.

His mom said that LSU had the chics in the players laps WITH their parents present. You know down in Louisiana, we don't mind if the parents watch us corrupt their kid. Its tradition. If the parents don't like the way we treat their kid, well by all means send your kid to a school like OU. They are angels sent by God to keep JMac away from the evils at other schools. Maybe OU can get JMac a job selling cars for a little extra cash.
Oh, by the way, Jmac's mom didn't release the Texas Sodom/Gomora story. JMac released that story in the proper channels..., in a high school writing project.
Keep it classy Miss Adams and brood.

I noticed the girl was sitting in JM's lap....I guess he didn't object. I'm sure he could've said no if he thought it was inappropriate...especially in front of mommy.
Good luck stopping those Big 12 offenses JM...say hi to mommy for us.

Who does this woman think she is? She's getting mad that Texas wasn't recruiting him that hard? frick, she's lucky her kid is as good as he is at football and that he is getting the scholarship offers he is. She needs to get out of his recruiting and let him decide his future.

Okay, but there's "crazy" and there's "Crazy". If you are pursuing females, and you start to rule out or severely limit your exposure to all types of "crazy", you're going to be awfully lonesome.

Also, go look at all the articles written by the accusatory author...see a trend?
THis is gonna be a shitstorm.
I troll the OU boards... and they DESPISE Ketch. I know Ketch is also one of the more biased mods out there. I've heard him on the radio, seen what he's written etc. He's pretty bad.
But in this case, I think he may be completely justified.

Agreed. I think the Mom crossed the line when she started to spout off about NCAA violations and she needs to put up or shut up.
If "J-Mac" wants to pick OU b/c he likes the schools, coaches, and facilities better, fine. If you want to say OU worked harder than the other schools in recruitment, go ahead. If Bob Stoops is a better Barbershop-watching buddy than Mack Brown and Les Miles and that's reason J-Mac chooses OU, be my guest.
But you allege major recruiting violations, you stepped over the line and you gotta come correct.
My thoughts exactly.
And to expand on your point, I find it rather disturbing that, if you followed this thing closely, his mother has insisted that he be in a good environment and more or less a "safe place" and "J-Mac" himself has said he wants to be a minister etc. So obviously "morals" are a premium to this family... yet she has no bones about openly trashing other schools, other coaches, other people to the NATIONAL media while making outrageous accusations?
Disgusting.

Perhaps the biggest and greatest irony of it all is of the schools involved who has the worst reputation for cheating?
Texas?
Not a chance.
USC?
Not really.
LSU?
Hardly.
OU.
Bing-the frick-o.

Come on people what do you expect? I think I read where at least 4 of their close family members were in jail.
Looks like the whole family is prone to making great choices. I wonder has she ever spent time in jail?

My hope for him is that he graduates and gets that diploma with OU on it and takes that thing back to Texas...Good Luck kid.

Momma has a lot to say. Where is papa? Why did I know they would have different last names? Why did she call her son J mac? is that the name she gace him at birth?
Momma sounds like she's looking for a deal

I strongly suspect that there has been a lot of backlash in the east Texas town of Lufkin over the past 24-48 hours and that Miss Adams is probably doing two things right now:
1) Telling everyone who calls that she didn't say any of that stuff; and
2) Looking for a lawyer who will sue the New York Times for her.
Fly high little bunny, fly high...
