On the quarterbacks behind Jefferson and Lee...
"The quarterbacks behind them such as Stephen Rivers is a six foot seven very capable thrower and a very bright young understudy. Zach Mettenberger, again in my opinion is really coming. He is a tough capable thrower, more athletic than when we first met him, he is getting stronger and leaner. That is a very good thing. Jerrard Randall is a multitalented guy that can play a number of spots. He is a very talented athletic style of quarterback that could also play wide receiver or possibly a secondary back. We need in this class a great quarterback. Frankly, there would be great opportunity considering we are graduating our top-two. There will be great opportunity at competition for a lot of playing time for a young talented quarterback. We're looking at a number of guys there and we're very optimistic."

gunner ran a run and gun spread offense in HS...

he will have quite the transition coming to LSU and there is nothing wrong with that.

I would like for him to redshirt, too. I think there is a decent chance that he makes the back-up spot. Not great but decent.

you are underestimating the transition from indiana high school spread offense football to the sec; we can agree to disagree, but like i said 0% chance.

Randall is the #2
Or Rivers. That's going to be interesting.

I hope LSU is able to redshirt Kiel. And, I think they probably will. We should be adequately manned at quarterback next season, and that will give him a chance to learn the playbook and the system. He should be a much improved player after a year of experience. I do NOT want to see him played too early, like we had to do with Garett Lee.

I can imagine a scenario where Gunner is #2 next year but not after the Spring. I would much prefer he redshirt though. Do we really want 3 qbs with the same clock in eligibility? For one that would guarantee a transfer for one of the kids(which isn't always bad) and two it would leave us with 3 qbs leaving at the same time. I am a play the best player type of guy so if Kiel is ready and wins the #2 or even #1 spot then I say play him but even if #2 I say redshirt him unless injury or ineffectiveness by Mett require that he play. If just mop up duty let Rivers and Randall do that.

I also feel Randall is going to be a change of pace qb for us with Mett and then challenge for the starting job after that.

I can see that scenario as well but I think we'd have to have another mobile qb on the team first. Les likes those mobile kids and is even trying to still bring one in this year. The only problem I see with Randall moving is where he would move? Wr is the obvious choice but that's dicey sometimes for guys that aren't natural pass catchers(see Shepard).

Randal. + Rivers in 2013 when Mett goes pro after LSU's 2nd straight NC. In 2014, it'll be Keil + Randall.

This.

JLee started way to early for the NC team and look what happened. Let the 18 year old kid redshirt and get adjusted to college life. Everyone will be going "rantarded" over "what could have been" in 3 years...

I doubt Miles is dumb enough to name a #2.

I'm not even sure he'll name a #1.

I THK HE WILL BE in a fight for the 2 spot w/ Rivers....

Randall will be moved to a DB or REC. ...........

i would really like to see him RS, but i thk he will be so good, that he will be hard to keep off the field.

Mett will be the starter the next two years unless he lights it up next year and goes pro.

Randall will get moved to wideout or some other position, or he may transfer depending on how he views himself and playing time.

Rivers will either stay ala LEE and ride the bench and be a good backup plan, or he will transfer ala craig neal and chris garrett.

If keil is anything close to adveritsed he will redshirt his first year to get a solid grasp of playbook and to have an extra year with moffit. Be the backup in 2013 and then start in 2014.
