do u have a list of the top 10 recruits in the State of LA
Posted on 2/7/12 at 2:42 pm to ralsu
No.
I think ranking 10 is too many in Louisiana, because after about 7, you start getting into Southland and Sun Belt recruits. I will give you my opinion on the top 7:
1. Gathers (Baylor)
2. Morgan (LSU)
3. Felix (Texas)
4. Qualls (Arkansas)
5. Milburn (undecided)
6. Troy Jones (undecided)
7. Louis Dabney (Tulane)

With Johnny O ‘Bryant playing the 4, the writing is on the wall for Gathers. Don't get me wrong, he would be getting playing time but no way, he starts over O ‘Bryant. Getting an athletic 4 would do wonders for this team. We would have our bigs (Hamilton & O ‘Bryant) a true point guard in Hickey and a relatively big shooting guard in Ralston Turner and a lot of reinforcements coming off the bench in Morgan, Stringer, Issaac, Ludwig and company.

No way Gathers skills are matched the 3 position. He's good for dunking however; he does not have a consistent jump shot. I think that Gathers would want to play the 3 position due to his NBA aspirations however; his current skills are more suited for a 4 even though he is rather short for the position.

I thought you were referring to Shavon Coleman. Gathers is definitely a 4.

Coleman can come in from day 1 and start and put up double figures, I think Morgan, Coleman, Big man and combo guard with size would be an real good class.

I believe that Shavon Coleman at 3 would be a better fit for this current team than Gathers. I'm not too crazy about the Peabody kid. Let him break some boards for Oklahoma State

Look out for St Aug for next year. I have a legitimate 6-8 cousin who has transferred from Brother Martin who had to sit out this year. He says that Craig Victor has grown 2 inches and is close to 6-9.

Bubba, I don't mean this to sound like an a-hole but you said Milburn isn't an SEC talent. I'd argue he's a hell of a lot better than Andre Stringer. This kid shouldn't be seeing minutes in the SEC. What's your take?

Don't have to be crazy about Troy but the kids playing strong right now and when he went up against Gathers, he played him well. Tech was there watching him 2 Fridays ago and I know Auburn is looking at him.

I don't really have an opinion of Milburn, as I have seen minimal video of him. I am just repeating what I have heard and read. I think his offers (or lack of) bear this out.
Also, saying that he is better than current players who have not panned out is not necessarily a seal of approval. There are lots of recruits who may be better than current players, but not good enough to take LSU to the next level. "Better than current players" is not a good evaluation method if the current players are not good.
And who is to say for sure that LSU won't sign him or he won't get SEC offers? Lots of things can happen between now and April.

true on all accounts. Speaking out of complete frustration last night. I have zero confidence in TJ right now to get the help needed.
I've seen Milburn twice now (in small doses each time) but he was the best player on the court every time.
I hope by some chance Trent does something that can sway Rico but that boat has probably sailed.

Did anyone ever tell you that you look a lot like Kent Lowe? Nice sig photo. Glamour shots?
Just kidding.
I actually talked to Kent recently. Great guy.
I know this is the recruiting thread, but I think Saturday is a must win game for Trent Johnson. If we can't beat Alabama at home, without Tony Mitchell, then this season is probably lost. That's not certain, but it would be a tremendous uphill battle.

You always post about Peabody, so why don't you give us some info?
Who is recruiting him? Is LSU actively recruiting him and have they offered? Give us a scouting report on him. Etc.

I heard the LSU story, never believed it, but Trent was there last year when we played Washington Marion. He liked the kid, that's the last I knew on the LSU front. I know Tech likes him and Auburn likes him. Sam Houston St, has been checking him out when they've come to look at Dee, same for Cleveland State when they've looked at Josh, but I know he likes Tech and Auburn.
He's improved from last year and even from the beginning of this this season. In collge, he's a 3/4. Shown throughout his career, he can step out to the 15-18 ft range and hit consistently. He's become a stronger rebounder this year. He was very timid against stronger competition (not skill wise, actual strength) his first few years. I won't say that's changed but its gotten a lot better. At his size he can take the ball end to end, pretty good handle for his size, have to get better to play the 3 in college. Doesn't mind posting up but its not his game, he does it cause its his role for us. But the kid to me is a raw talent. The attributes are there, just needs some polish. He's not a 4 year project, but I'd say in college, he'll do well where ever goes.

Trent Johnson says on Rivals today that he is confidant of LSU signing two more players, but wouldn't give information as to their identities. He explained that he did not like to give out recruiting information.
This is within a story where he refutes Gathers' comments, saying he and his staff work extremely hard.

Bubba-Have you seen Nick Parker play? Soph PG at Port Allen High, very talented player, IMO will be a HM=High Major, D1 player.
