You could swap Neal and Toman. Toman is still getting mocked in the first round. I’m interested to see what happens with Neal. He’s still 17, he would be 20 when he is drafted the second time if he attends college. Not sure if that hurts us or helps us.

Going to be a long month as we sweat this out

Don't know why, but I have a good feeling about this class. Seems like a lot of these kids genuinely want to be Tigers, and I think CJJ knows what needs to be done NIL wise.

That is a good breakdown. Those top 12 will be the focus of the draft. That doesn't mean the other guys won't impact 2023 because they could impact 2023 a great deal.
Of those 12, the latest mock draft have Snelling, Crawford and Toman gone but things can change. I don't think losing those 3 will hurt us that much.
Its the other 9 in your top 12 that will determine the value of this class. This class is going to be outstanding, how outstanding will probably be determined from how many of those 9 we get.

TRANSFER UPDATE: @FSUBaseball LHP Ross Dunn has entered the Transfer Portal, sources tell @d1baseball. Dunn started 11 games and made 16 appearances for the #Noles this season w/ 77 strikeouts in 48 innings. Lefty with a fastball up to 94-95 mph
Name to monitor
ETA: Don’t know if we are going after him but he’s a lefty

We signed a class full of LHP. With Cooper and Hasty returning they aren’t going to be specifically recruiting LHP. They just need good pitchers regardless of which arm they throw with

Johnson loves left handed pitchers. We will see more than we have the last several years. He will keep more lefties on staff than Paul did

Right, but what he's saying (and I agree with it) is that the work on getting LHP vs RHP has already been done for the incoming class. Now it's best available without regard to handedness. They won't be looking at a guy simply because he's a lefty.

I also agree but it’s gonna largely depend on the draft and who comes to campus. That could change things and at that point they may target one or the other in the portal.

We're likely to get 5/6 lefties currently committed and 3 of those have the potential to start on weekends.

Project, do you know who are all they guys in the portal you know we are going after?

All the names in this post from a few pages back are still accurate. There have been no more additions, and only the kid from Quinnipiac has made a decision (A&M).

Here's a rough look of what I see as far as getting to 40, and this is before adding more portal/juco guys and really spitballing on the draft. I think it gets really tight once Jay starts digging in the portal. Not a bad thing.
Position locks:
Crews
Jobert
Dugas (may leave, I guess)
Thompson
Morgan
Pearson
Stevenson
Milazzo
Have to think about:
Merrifield/Cranford (prob can’t keep both, maybe neither)
Simon (will he ever be healthy and back to form?)
Leto (I love the potential, but the roster’s going to get tight)
Beloso (I love his heart, but he’s a DH only)
Gio (I don’t see it with what we have and could get in the OF)
Travinski (I don’t see it)
Incoming:
Frey
Jones/Neal (I just don’t think we get both)
Kling (draft risk)
Ruddell
Guidry/Romero (would love both but thinking pessimistically)
Paul
Pitcher locks:
Floyd (draft risk)
Collins
Reyz (draft risk)
Gervase (draft risk)
Lansville
Cooper
Money
Dutton
Taylor
Coleman
Have to think about:
G Fontenot (not sure what his issues were but they weren’t performance)
Bollman (can we count on him coming back productive?)
Incoming:
Herring
Kennedy (draft risk)
Primeaux
Moffett
Bucknam
Bronzini
Noot/Shores (I’d love both)
Siravo/Misiorowski (I’d love both)
Appleby/Ackenhausen (I’d love both)

Ben McDonald said he expects a lot of turnover. You have about 9 leaving, and I’m not sure if that’s going to be the end of it. I know some guys like Dugas, Gervase, Floyd and Reyz might leave, but those are guys that you should at least have a chance to keep around. I have a feeling we are going to hit the portal hard before the draft and the draft will just be the icing on the cake.
Posted on 6/7/22 at 8:50 pm to bugafor6
I expect a lot of turnover, too. You have graduates and the draft. And, it's a deep, rich class. I think 5 would be the max from the portal. Sweet spot more like 3.
Posted on 6/7/22 at 8:56 pm to bugafor6
It’s so hard to predict who is gonna sign which makes it hard to know how many you need out of the portal. I don’t envy these coaches and having to manage the roster. It’s worse with the draft now being later.
Posted on 6/7/22 at 9:22 pm to subidc
I think you have to go get every top kid and not let the draft get you in a bind. School starts like 2 weeks after grace period for signing picks is over. Can’t use the portal to react to the draft now.
Posted on 6/7/22 at 9:30 pm to bugafor6
I agree if there is a middle infielder, third baseman, catcher or ace pitcher I don’t think he holds off until after the draft I think he grabs them now.

Just saw A&M got USCs best pitcher. They are killing this portal stuff
Posted on 6/7/22 at 9:55 pm to beardkp
He could end up like 4 guys they had committed from the portal last year that go pro instead.
