i dunno, i guess i was just looking at how thick his legs and his neck are, just a stocky looking dude. he definitely needs to gain some weight if he could play DT in the sec. josh downs is small for a DT but he's much thicker in his midsection. really it's a good thing for copeland, bc when he gets on campus they can try him at different spots on the DL.

Lynx what makes you like Copeland much more than Downs?
You said last year you thought Downs would never be much of a contributor and IMO they are very similar players in size and style.

I see much more quickness with Copeland and he uses his hands and agility better to get penetration.
Even with quickness being a strong suit of Downs...I don't think it is on the same level as JC

I expected him to be a Favorite type player....which he still may turn out to being. He was serviceable this past year as a true freshman, but didn't do anything to blow me away.

I started a thread about Copeland after watching this tape on Sunday.
Obviously his quickness stands out to everyone, but the thing I love about him is that it's not pointless quickness, if that makes sense. Every year you'll see dozens of guys that can get off the ball and into the backfield and completely miss the ball carrier. Not Copeland. He blows by his man and does a superb job of locating the ball carrier and that's a talent.

Easily one of the better DT films I've ever seen. I hope he can find a way to come to LSU.

My friends who started at Neville said Downs was hands down they best football player they had EVER played against - I wasn't surprised to see him play as a frosh and neither were they.

I really like Downs upside and potential. I think he'll be a great player for LSU.

Not sure about how much upside (after cfb) Downs has, but he scared half the team at Neville to death when he played hs; was said to have played like he was on drugs, didn't feel pain and would not stop until he hurt someone - which in fact he did; he made some kids switch to baseball after breaking things they needed for football.
But Copeland def has better film, and a lot of it. I'm sure fans of the game will enjoy watching him, wherever he goes.

Totally agree, too many people put measurable's over on field performance. He seems to have both, though.

This breaks my heart he is not coming. Ha, I thought he was a lock for sure after Brandon Worle liked his FB status. Where is the justice?
I still think we have a solid class, but damn I wanted Copeland.

Downs is the first guy off the ball every play, so I'm not sure how you can be quicker than him. He was the same way in the UA All Star game. Maybe he's not as agile as Copeland, but the reason Downs struggled when he was in as a true freshman was all about a lack of strength. A boy against men.
Dominique Easley is the most explosive 3 technique in this recruiting class. This kid is good, but what Easley did against a bunch of All Americans every play in that allstar game was illegal.

Also, I hate to say it, but I think Darrington Sentimore has more upside than either of them. I can't tell you how impressed I was with him when I watched Destrehan last year, he was just an animal out there.
Copeland's upside may be limited bc he is only 6' tall (FWIW, that's what he listed himself to the Tigerbait reporter a few days ago), and may not be able to put much weight on. Sentimore has more height, and is explosive as shite as well. I really felt he was a top 50 talent last year.
I wonder if Coach O tried to get Copeland to go to USC with him.
The DT I liked the best in the South this year was Mike Thornton, also from Georgia. Check out his stuff lynx, and let me know what you think.
Georgia was loaded at DT this year. I would take Copeland, Thornton, Jeff Whitacker, and Garrison Smith all over the DTs LSU recruited like Ego Ferguson and Cassius Marsh.

Tennessee has a huge need at DT. We have recruited Copeland from the get go and gave him his first SEC offer.
I think LSU could have gotten him if they would have offered him over the summer. They had to know about him they were recruiting his teamate. He is clearly a fallback in LSU's coaches eyes after losing out on Marsh. Where UT went after him from the get go.
IMO that is why he chose UT....

Yeah we are desperate to replace the NC / SEC title winning coach/and other coaches /a really great recruiting group with any available WAC coach - heck even Sun Belt would do.

I can understand if this comparison, though unnecessary,, were directed at proven successful head coaches and coaching teams - this is just sheer idiocy.

Thanks for posting, JC will look great in Organe. Auburn did offer him, but they rescinded the offer because he was never going to go there.
