Except you said LSU not Louisiana State University. Therefore, the correct grammar would be “an LSU fan” not “a LSU fan”.

LSU is short for Louisiana State University
You don't use 'an' in front of anything that starts with 'L'

Guys, just a PSA, The choice between "a" and "an" depends on the sound that follows, not the actual letter.
LSU is pronounced "Ell-Ess-You", and the first sound is a vowel sound ("Ell").
Since it starts with a vowel sound, you use "an".
