Is LSU still a serious contender for Jonathan Kuminga?

I know he released his top 10 schools a while ago and LSU wasn't in it. However, 247sports still has LSU tied with Duke with a 25% chance of landing him ("Undecided" was #1 with 50%).

What does 247 know that makes them give LSU such a good chance? Also, what are the odds that Kuminga reclassifies into the 2020 class?

All indications are he is not.

Plus, as it stands, LSU has filled their current amount of open scholarships for next year (5). Signing anymore guys would require someone from this team with remaining eligibility to leave, via the draft or otherwise

I fully expect either Smart or Emmitt (or both) to leave.

I’m hearing a lot of good things. Frank thinks we may get him. But you never know. Don’t shot the messenger.

Yes. He is a candidate to reclassify.

Not sure how the numbers work with all of the guys were still pursuing, current scholarship guys, and potential pro flight guys. You're only allowed 13 scholarships. Not sure how transfer rules affect that number.

5 New guys so far

SG Cameron Thomas
PG Jalen Cook
C Bradley Ezewiro
SF Mwani Wilkinson
SF Josh Leblanc (will be eligible in Dec 2020)

5 Likely returnees

SF Darius Days
SG Charles Manning Jr
SG Aundre Hyatt
PG James Bishop
PF Courtese Cooper

3 Potential Pro Guys

PG Javonte Smart
PF Emmitt Williams
PF Trendon Watford

4 Guys were still pursuing in

2020
PG Eric Gaines

Transfer
PF Shareef Oneal

2021 (reclassifying candidates)
SF Jonathan Kuminga
C Frank Anselem

Obviously were not getting all of them, but depending on who wants in and who comes back there will definitely be some moves made to make room for elite talents like Kuminga and Anselem. Some guys may soon see playing time become unavailable

Getting Smart and Watford back would be so big for next year.

Emmitt gone from what i've read on here.

I'm curious, if Shaq pays for his son's tuition, is he treated like a walkon, or does he count against the thirteen?

Walk on but that will never happen Bc it would be an insult to ask his dad to pay for his kids way here

If they are offered a scholarship, then they count towards the 13, regardless if they have to sit out any time or not. See KBW his first year here for reference.

With that said, Wade seems pretty adept at controlling his recruiting/scholarship numbers (last year aside due to obvious reasons), and I'm sure has a plan in place as to how to make it all work.

If that's the case, then I think it's going to be tough and some current guys may need to find somewhere else to go. Leblanc is going to be in the rotation for sure next year. You don't turn down a legacy transfer and not give him a schollie, especially when its your most famous alumni's kid LOL

Cooper unlikely to return imo if chips land the right way.

Check the main basketball recruiting thread. Some posters have provided a good breakdown of the roster and how to add the players we want. However, I don’t think Kuminga was one factored in as a possible get. Could just be because there hasn’t been much talk on him since he released that top 10.

With the graduating seniors, the rest of the underclassman and incoming class as it is now puts us at 13 on the dot. We're only pushing for O'neal, Gaines, Anselem, Kuminga. Williams Watford Cooper and at this point maybe Hyatt are the likely ones to exchange / replace.

My prediction is Williams and Cooper out, Anselem and Oneal in. I think Gaines and Kuminga go hand in hand with what Smart and Watford decided to do and are more long shots anyway

Very strong.

If Smart and Watford return with that incoming group. Look out!

Williams Smart nor Watford have valuable draft grades as of yet. My dream scenario next year would be a 10 man deep squad. Shooting would improve, and lineups would be so versatile. Could play any style of game. Basically a jacked up deeper version of this years team and veteran.

Javonte Smart 4* 6'4 Jr
James Bishop 3* 6'2 So

Cameron Thomas 5* 6'3 Fr
Charles Manning 3* 6'5 Sr

Darius Days 4* 6'6 Jr
Mwani Wilkinson 4* 6'6 Fr

Emmitt Williams 5* 6'6 Jr
Josh Leblanc 4* 6'7 Jr

Trendon Watford 5* 6'9 So
Frank Anselem 4* 6'10 Fr

Bench
Jalen Cook 3* 6'0 Fr
Bradley Ezewiro 3* 6'8 Fr
Shareef O'Neal 4* 6'9 (Transfer Ineligible)

Shareef would be immediately eligible. Trendon has a 2nd Round Grade.
