also too much hype is involved with 5* players, there is so much to live up to when your ranked that high and more often than not its the 4* player that has a better career
Ford is fine where he is, should be around 50 or so but not a five star imo.

Name everyone of the players you have in your top 50.

There isn't that many players who had better years than Ford.
Ford was only rated so low because of his injury last season and MS didn't think he was that good.
Were as you had others who had seen him and said he was the second best back in LHS history.
Ford is the best back out of Louisiana since Collins.
Dalton Hilliard was rated around a 1300 level when he came out of high school, which would be a high 3.
C. Collins was a can't miss type player out of HS.

Originally Ford was a 5*. Right after he committed I looked his status up and he was a 5*. But after reevaluation and his injury he was bumped down. I held my reservation on his star status until he could prove himself. I think this year he has done more than enough to prove himself. His numbers speak for themselves. Nearly broke the state rushing record, had a 400 yd. game. Had a long streak of at least 200 yd/gm. He even gashed a nationally ranked team (WM) for 180 yds. He can run, block and catch. Ran a 4.3 40 at camp. Benches over 400 lbs. He has incredible build, second maybe to TR. I think he has earned the 5th star. I think all he needs is some new film. I heard they havent reviewed any new film and cant justify a rise in the rankings without some.
But regardless, it doesnt change the player. We got a steal in Ford and eventually everyone will see that.

If he would come out and say that he has a slight interest in Bama (ala JJ) then he would definitely get his 5th star.

That's how I look at it.
I don't care about the star-ratings, although it would be good for the kid to see his name all over the nation rather than just in La.
But, he will get his recognition at LSU and it will mean much more then - nobody ever refers to their high school ratings - except for those high starss who couldn't actually hack it at the college level.
Ford will get his recognition when it matters - and we got him without too much competition from the likes of ND and USC.

tigerbill002,
Ford wasn't even in Rivals top 150 at the start of the year and he was a 4 star player.
Ford was ranked perseason #10 in Louisiana on Rivals.
On scouts Ford is still a 4 and has moved up to #7 at RB vs #10 on Rivals.
The David Oku the rb ahead of Ford on Scouts is a 5 and isn't as good as Ford at this time.

He didin't run a 4.3. Ran in the 4.4's. In another camp he ran a 4.69 b/c of a bad start, and I think that, along with his junior year injury, is why he was ranked so poorly coming into this year.

If I remember correctly, guys like Dalton Hillard, Cecil Collins, Jacob Hester all were not 5 stars.
Hester was, famously, a 2 Star, and the lowest rated player in his recruiting class. Collins was during the transition to the internet as a primary source of recruiting information for most casual observers. I don't recall any specific rankings for Collins, but he was the first Mr. Louisiana Football, and was the top player, or in the top 3 players recruited in the state. Would have been a borderline 5 star player today. Hilliard was before all of that, but was also highly recruited.

He was a 5* on Scouts if I remember correctly. Sonny Shipp wrote the article. I would post a link but not sure if Sonny Shipp would appreciate that. If you have a Scouts membership you can click on Fords name and find the article where he committed. I think he finds his 5th star again on Scouts site, doubt Rivals makes the upgrade.
As for the 40 time. I think he ran a 4.4 not a 4.3. My apologies. Cant remember exactly. I know Lache ran a 4.3 for sure though.

There has been plenty of kids who were five stars who haven't done diddly in college. Consequently, there has been some two and three stars that have gone on to great things.
but an overwhelming precentage of 5* players are successful, while for every Hester there are litteraly hundreds of players every year who never do jack shite in college.
Stars do mean something, bottom line.
