and running through the end of the month.

That means no in-person contact with recruits. Was typically a popular time for Junior Day events.

In-person contact is allowed again March 1.

Shea Dixon - Recruiting note on the NCAA's calendar:

Signing day is Feb 5th this year.

Don’t understand this.
Why would they make the month of February a dead period for next years recruits?
What significance does February hold?

Because they are keeping the coaches from bumping into the current year recruits. You know that all coaches would be at the schools "accidentally" running in to the current year recruits they are not supposed to talk to or see.

No. This ain't it. Historically, the dead period was just a few days around signing day and the rest was a quiet period. My best guess is that coaches wanted a break and time to prepare for spring. These guys have been going non stop since August.

My guess as well. Gives the coaches some vacation time. Does make you wonder why we dont have a jr day scheduled for next weekend. Ovs will be limited most likely.

The "bump" into current recruits would be null and void aside from someone like Zach Evans. 99% of the kids that would be recruited will have signed by then.
