Corey Thompson vs. Craig Loston

I think this is an interesting comparison, as they seem to profile rather similarly, yet there is a large difference in their rankings coming out of high school.
Corey Thompson (3*): 6’2 / 205 lbs / 40: 4.56
Craig Loston (5*): 6’1 / 190 lbs / 40: 4.57
Some might argue that this is an unfavorable comparison, but Loston was obviously highly touted coming out of HS and for good reasons. He still has a couple years left to live up to his potential. Thompson's got the same speed, despite Loston giving 15 lbs.
Thoughts?

Loston with the way he hits is probably a concussion away from not playing again.
He missed most of this season after the concussion he got in the West Va game and its the reason the redshirt was burned on Ronald Martin when Reid got hurt against Ole Miss.

Only Rivals lists Thompson at 4.56. All the others have him at 4.66.
I would guess he's probably somewhere in between.

That's true. Are you buying the possibility that Thompson moves to LB? Some talk out there that his coverage skills are lacking.

Dang. We need a Safety, last thing we need in this class is another LB, especially if we land Alexander.

He'll play Saftey, no doubt.
He has a few years to learn coverage skills.

Not based on the video I've seen. He appears to read and diagnose plays quickly. He also closes quickly on the pass. Seems like a real natural at strong safety with a natural instinct for reading the play. He might end up being one of the best strong safeties we've had in a while, present company included.

This is Corey Thompson scouting report from ESPN.com
Thompson is a rangy, athletic safety prospect that is scheme versatile, has the size to play near or within the box and he is football fast. Is tall with long arms and flashes some playmaking skills in coverage while being a very physical and willing run supporter from his high point position. Shows some savvy with his alignment in disguising coverages. He is at his best defending the run. Fills hard from the high point and takes decent angles in pursuit. Has room to improve as a wrap-up tackler, but shows good power and will break down in space. He has the size and strength to match up in the box. Does a good job of using his hands to sift through traffic. He has a nose for the football and always seems to be in on the big play; sees the backfield well and does not take many false steps. He shows good power as a hitter and will make his presence felt over the middle in coverage. He also flashes very good ball skills in coverage and is an excellent leaper who will win some jump balls. Accelerates to the ball very well and shows good closing burst for his size. Shows adequate range underneath and has the speed to improve his range with more experience and better diagnostic skills. Thompson shows burst and acceleration coming forward, but we are not sure of his true top end speed. We feel he is a really nice match-up in coverage with backs, tight ends and bigger receivers although we would not want him aligned with smaller, quicker players in space on a fulltime basis. Thompson is a definite candidate to make a transition to outside linebacker which may be an ideal fit form him given his size/speed/athletic blend. Good prospect.
Notes
Decommitted from Texas A&M for LSU January 2012... Committed to Texas A&M March 2011... His father, Tony, played receiver for Texas A&M...
Here is a highlight tape of him from youtube.

Nope. He plays faster than his listed time IMO.
Also, with so many LB commits, don't see why we'd take another. He's a S all the way IMO.
