I'd wait and hold onto the criticisms of a coaching staff you've never seen take the field yet. Miles, Saban & Urban are known quantities. Our defense will and ALWAYS has kept us in games with those teams. You actually know nothing about this UT team. The vol faithful could say the same thing, but we're otimistic about our future. When you find your program where ours is now, there is no where to go but up from here. So, at who's expense? UGA? UF? Bama? The games we lose are nearly 4-7 point difference. So ask yourself, Can this UT coaching staff make up those 4-7 points in the next year or two? Sure we can. Look at your own history against UT; a win by 4 and a win by 7 and then letting a third string UT QB beat you in your own backyard in the 4th QTR.

I can tell you, we made the upgrade. We've cleaned house and landed some big recruits, even starting off with a 5 star already for 2010. Don't get ahead of yourself. Anyone that doesn't think UT will be competitive next year will be sorry for not taking them seriously.

I assure you, your coaches will prepare for us even more now. They know what they are facing. Ask them.

Winning games by 4 and 7 points are signs that you have a close team and a never say die attitude. Our coaches instill that belief in our players. We always believe we are going to win every game because of that heart. Teams that consistently lose close games do not know how to finish. That comes with coaching. Kiffen has NEVER coached a SEC game in his life...or even a college game. As you know they are many swings of momentum in a college game that defines if a team wins or loses. Kiffen needs to hold his emotions in check and guide the team to victory just like the coaches you listed above have. I simply believe your coaches (Kiffen and Ogre) cannot. Its a matter of opinion but yet opinion backed up by facts. Facts that state Kiffen has never been a head coach in the SEC and as a head coach has never won period. I firmly believe Kiffen does not have the emotional security to be a successful SEC coach. That is all.

I can assure you that Kiffin is instilling the same belief that we can win and win NOW into our players just like Les Miles does at LSU. We still have some great players in Knoxville and they are fully aware, especially after watching the termination of Fulmer, of how its DO OR DIE at a place like Tennessee. Its not like LSU "believes more" than any other team.

Oh and in the future, at least spell Kiffin's name right.

Well, you can count Oregon out of the mix for BB with their coach resigning to become the new AD. Now I beleive LSU and UT are his only choices and his visit to UT bodes well for them. If we get BB great because he us extremely talented, but if not who cares because this decision may determine someones fate in the 2010 class.

Not one holding out hope here, but that sure does not sound that he's set to go to UT. Sounds like a smart move on his part to go see the team up close. Kiffin is an unknown college quantity. He's seen Miles and UM's style of play.

Perhaps he was not impmressed with the antics of UT?

Wherever this kid goes, I wish him well and do not begrudge him for his due diligence.

Living here in Tennessee, I do get tired of hearing the arrogant attitudes of you UT fans and you have no reason to be that way! The Alabama bandwagon fans here must be getting the arrogance going.

UT, you talk about your defense, yet the guy who made it all possible is gone in Chavis. Doubt that and you're nuts. I admit, you guys gave us all we wanted two years ago and it was Ainge that cost you the game, not your defense. You are starting all over again. Monte Kiffin has been coaching pro ball for how long? He coaches a Tampa 2 which is almost non existant in the college ranks and takes a unit at least 2 to 3 years together to perfect. Unlike the pros, you don't have these kids for that long. I think you will fall on your face miserably. I know you guys are optimistic. Of course you are, why wouldn't you be? Unfortunatly, you let your orange colored glasses blur your vision of the truth. Kiffin, never has coached a college game a head coach. Ogeron has been a bust the last 4 years of his career. How in the world is Monte Kiffin who is what in his late 60's early 70's going to relate to 18-20 year olds? Especially considering the fact he's been coaching in the pros for the last 20+ years. All signs point to major disappointment for you guys. Too bad, the truth hurts.

quote:

That aggressive approach is the foundation of the Tampa 2, the style of Cover 2 defense made popular by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Tony Dungy, starting in the mid- to late-1990s. Actually, it all started in the 1970s with Bud Carson's Steelers defenses, for whom Dungy played defensive back. Dungy learned the Cover 2 from Carson. In Cover 2, two safeties play zone (area) coverage, each of them responsible for half of the field. Dungy's Bucs had great success dropping a speedy middle linebacker (the "Mike") down the middle of the field to defend the pass, creating a three-deep look, while four often undersized but quick defensive linemen rushed the passer. And so, the Tampa 2 was born.

At best, they mention Monte as part of a team that fashioned it to Tampa's personnel...
quote:

It was a combination of the Tampa Bay staff that was lead by Tony Dungy. That staff included great coaches like Monty Kiffin, Lovie Smith and Mike Tomlin. Tony Dungy took the ideas he had while playing in the NFL, especially from the Steelers playbook that Chuck Noll created and expanded on their ideas to better suit their team speed.

What is this rumor about LSU being the front runner?

Volnation talking about it...?

I don't think we are...No one on our side is saying much of anything..

Vols are begging for him

Miles gave a soft sell of what we have to offer and letting brown have room...to think..

Interesting tactic from Miles

What the frick does all the garabage you posted about the Tampa 2 and it's originiations etc have to do with the fact your DC is a fossil and has been coaching in the pro rankns for how long? Did I ever say the Tampa 2 didn't work or who started it? Y

You mean forgotten in Oregon, never to be heard of again like Jonathan Stewart? Drafted as a junior in the 1st round. Scored 10 TDs his rookie season for the Panthers. Ever heard of him?

Some people heard of Oregon last year when they finished 10th in the nation. Where did UT finish? Do they have a "Top 75 Teams" rankings list on ESPN?

Current odds for involved teams to win the NC game in 2009:

Oregon - 1/20
LSU - 1/20
Miami - 1/35
Tennessee - 1/100

Brown visiting UT at this point sounds good for the Vols. But, I wouldn't count your chickens until Monday.

Face the facts. A couple of players playing in the NFL doesn't mean you are relevant. Here is a list of players from UT currently playing in the NFL.

Erik Ainge Quarterback New York Jets

Kevin Burnett Linebacker San Diego Chargers
Chad Clifton Offensive Tackle Green Bay Packers

Yes, Tennessee has had a couple of down years lately. But the truth is Tennessee will bounce back because the history of college football proves the same teams win year in year out. Yes they have some down turns. But when all is said and done they end up back at the top. Here is a list of the teams who have won the most games since 1939. Who is #2?

Rank Team W L T GP W%
1 Oklahoma 582 194 22 798 0.743
2t Tennessee 561 217 28 806 0.713
Texas 561 228 15 804 0.707
4 Alabama 559 227 24 810 0.705
5t Ohio State 554 186 22 762 0.741
Penn State 554 206 15 775 0.725
7 Michigan 550 203 17 770 0.725
8 Nebraska 545 246 13 804 0.686
9 Notre Dame 543 217 20 780 0.709
10 Southern Cal 538 232 36 806 0.690

Do you know where Oregon ranks? I am not sure either the list quit at 50. I do know they have finished in the top 20 a whopping 6 times total. Wow!
