How do they calculate the points? I see school classes are ranked according to a point system. lsu currently has like 244. How is that done?

I wanna say its somewhat like a quarter of that players rating is how many points they're worth. Maybe closer to a 5th.

It's a convoluted mess of a weigted formula where the top rated recruit in the class is worth a certain amount of points based on their rating and each successive lower rated recruit is worth less points up to the 20th rated recruit in your class. I'm pretty sure 247 doesn't release the actual formula.

I wonder that myself. We went from 230 to 244 when Hilton committed (rated 96.77).

They do. Go to the 247 team rankings page and click the small "i" button which is under the header.

Idk all the way, but i do know that if a team that's further behind in the rankings get a high ranked player they'll get more points than us if we are like top 5 in ranking. Something about his impact being more important to them than with us

Well it is like this, Bama automatically gets bumped up and LSU automatically gets bumped down. All You need to know

Best way to learn it is to go to the LSU 2021 Football Commits screen
On the right had side of the screen is a "MORE" button.
click it and select "Class Calculator".
that shows you the points for each player.
You can add players and remove them to see how that changes things.
Basically, you get the maximum points for your highest rated player and that diminishes a pretty good bit by the time you get to the 10th or 15th player.
LSU went up a pretty good bit because Hilton is the second rated player with 26.61 points. LSU did not climb by that many points because everyone except Raesjon Davis now gives LSU fewer points now.
If you could find 25 players with the same rating, you could find out how much each spot in the list diminishes ;-)

That sounds like a very non scientific and foolish method for rating classes. Often the highest rated recruits wait until signing day or esd to commit.
