I mentioned it in a few other threads, and even said something to the effect of "in my head it doesn't seem that difficult". All in all, it really wasn't to bad. We got pretty lucky with removing the old deck boards themselves as it appeared that the previous owner had started to replace boards, thus the screws used weren't in too bad of shape. The biggest headache was with the joists. Whoever built the old deck did the joists at 24" and used a nail gun to hold them in place. Trex calls for 16" so after seeing that the old joists were still in good shape for the most part, we kept most of them and just added additional joists in between each. Once we got the boards off though, two of the joists had detached from the 2x8 at the end of the deck and completely fell over. We got them back in place and level, and secured each joist with a U - joist hanger. From there it was just a matter of cutting the boards and getting them secure with the hidden fasteners. Still have the board on the very end to attach as my jig saw bit the dust, and there's 4 posts I have to notch out. Didn't realize it when we ordered the Trex, but it matches the grill table I built almost exactly. I've still been working, but I listed out a bunch of projects when this quarantine stuff started since we weren't sure if we were going to be able to continue working; and this completes that list.

Completed deck pictured above, but I've now got this little gap to deal with...

I'm going to remove that beat up piece of 1x and should have about 3-3.5" to work with. What should I do to close that up? I thought about ripping a piece of the trex to the appropriate width and then adding a groove to it, but the clip holders on the outside would still show. FWIW, the stair step is getting replaced this weekend.

Can you rip the trex and just face screw it?

You can rip the trex. I did that on my lower deck and cut a circle out to wrap around a support pole for my upper deck. Then just screw it down from the top.

ETA I also used the trex board for my steps. Replace that step with it as well and it should tie in well. I’ll snap pics later. I think we had to trim some out there as well but can’t remember.

Here’s what we did at the top of the stairs. Ripped a little piece and screwed it in to fill the gap. Yours looks pretty wide so something like this would look even better.

That looks great and I think that's exactly what I'm going to do with the open gap. I have 4-5 full 20' left over so I should be able to easily do that. Also pretty much what I'm thinking about doing with the step. Old deck had a bench built in that really only got used by our bluetick so that he could see over the fence to the neighborhood's open lot. Wife wants some kind of storage bin instead so I'll eventually build that and hopefully have enough trex left over to cover it as well.
