Will planting beets work now or am I too late or early?

I'm in SW Mississippi, north of Liberty.

Beets are a cool/cold weather loving crop. Mine are just up about 2-3 inches tall right now.
Oh, and those little round seeds you see in the pack are actually several seeds together, so they will need thinning when they get about 4 inches tall so they can form bulbs. If you leave them clumped, you get zilch. But you can eat the green tops in salads.
