My home WiFi is garbage. We get service through Cox, or rather we are supposed to be getting service through Cox. They can’t fix it. Nothing works even within 4 feet of the modem/router. Does anyone know any good home networking consultants in the Baton Rouge area who might be able to help?

Lots of questions left to answer before we can help.
If you hook your computer/laptop directly to the router with an Ethernet cable what kind of speed do you get?
Is the router stationed inside a cabinet or behind the TV?
Have you tried using a purchased router (one not leased from your ISP ) instead of the provided?
I have a little experience but know there are others here with much more than me but the suggestion to ask on the tech board is a solid one.

I bought a netgear nighthawk and it is awesome. I have WiFi down the street now. But I agree to test your speed with a cable directly into the modem first.

Are you getting poor signal strength when you look at your wifi connections? Or is it strong signal strength but just slow speeds?
If it is the former, you may want to look into a good broadcasting system like Eero. I was getting 4 mbps in my bedroom prior to Eero and 900 mbps after.
If it is the latter, see if you can get your ISP to send a field tech out to look at your pedestal.
