Felling a tree is dangerous and practice and knowledge is very important. I’ve done it for many years, not professionally. I learned as a kid and have done 25 to 30 trees in the last 2 years. If you are not sure, don’t try it. I still get nervous doing them and don’t touch some because of the position or escape route problems.
I think the original post was asking about cutting up a downed tree. That is still dangerous, depending on the tree and pressure points involved.

in past five years, we've paid $3500 per pine tree without stump removal in Baton Rouge using Bofingers.
You're better off renting a 24" chainsaw and a small tractor to cut the trees down yourself and cut up the downed tree in 3ft pieces to be hauled to a burn pile with the small tractor.

Paid 700 for a 30 foot tree including haul.
Just paid this. Tree was next to my garage as well so required lowering it down piece by piece. Houston.
The prices in this thread are wild, is it just super expensive in Louisiana for some reason?

I got a quote to cut down and haul off about 13-14 small to large pines, some dead, some not, one or two already on the ground, for $3000. Reputable guy who's been in business a long time. hasn't done the job yet.....I wonder if he realized he under priced the job after he left?. or his crew is still in coastal Georgia cleaning up the hurricanes of last year.
