I saw a yard the other day that looked like someone had taken a propane torch to it in preparation for new sod. Have any of y'all had any experience with it? Would this be a good idea after tilling up the yard to prep for new sod?

Also, what is your favorite grass for a sunny exposure in the Baton Rouge area?

Seems like Roundup would be much faster.

If managed correctly, a hybird bermuda lawn is hard to beat, imo.

Some people use a torch to burn off the thatch of a Bermuda/Zoysia grass yard. Helps it green up faster.

Seems like that would also kill the soil bacteria, which you do not want to do.

My dad burned the yard every year in early spring while the grass was still dormant. Never used fertilizer, either. Only used dry molasses. Ever. My uncle had a farm and kept burlap sacks full of that in the barn and used it in a hopper and fed his soybean fields with it every year. Dad adopted it for the yard and it always looked great.
