No longer live there. But we kept them trimmed and maintained at about 6 ft tall and were more boxed and squared off. It’s exactly what I hoped for.

I did all the mowing but we have a local garden crew who maintained the big beds in front and backyard around the pool about 3 times per year. They would keep them trimmed and squared off. There was a nice gap from the brick wall. This was just a little side spot in front of fence to cover up garage window and gas meter.

4 ft apart spacing would be very appropriate it seems.

Also, look into Linebackers as well as another option.

How far away from the wall did you plant them? They seem pretty close, did they just use one of those electric trimmers on a pole to trim behind the plant and away from the wall?

I had the landscaping crew add them when they came and did enhancements one spring. They were about 3ft apart and 3ft from the wall. I think 4ft+ is probably more ideal for both.

Yes they used electric trimmers few times per year. There was about a 6 inch gap they would maintain away from the bricks.

It was a dead wall corner of house and garage. Grass never grew well there and I wanted it for cover I previously mentioned. I was really pleased how much it grew in first year. I never had any issues, and it was mindless for me.

We moved from that house last year. Now you’ve got me curious to drive by and take a look at it and see how new owners are maintaining it (or maybe they ripped it out).

They likely lost all of their foliage in the resent freeze. They will bounce back. I wouldn't plant that kind of shrub that close to a house. But if you prune often, it can be done.
