So I have a cane Corso who I just finished building a huge doghouse for in the last week or two. I insulated the heck out of it with R19 and spray foam then installed a thermostat controlled heater off Amazon for like $120

I ordered a nylon flap weather door to try and keep some of the heat in but it was entirely too small. The clear type like you see over warehouse doors. Anybody know of any type of similar material I can purchase at Lowes/Home depot in sheet form perhaps that I can cut flaps into. I'm sure there's an obvious solution I'm not thinking of lol TIA

I’ve used carpet in the past. You can find scraps somewhere.

Go to McMAster-Carr website, find your materials and order.

The prebuilt dog doors that are made for the cold are multi layered, FWIW. should be an easy build either way. just make sure its heavy enough or put something weighted on the bottom. Maybe even a magnet, with another on the ground to keep shut

That was your first mistake. You should build a dog house just big enough for the dog to be able to enter, turn around and lie down to get comfortable. Build it so the deck is off the ground so cold won't transfer through the bottom.

Then drop something like hay, pine straw or even an old blanket if you just need to have something manmade for them to sleep on, and be done with it.

Their body heat will keep them warm in a small area.

Corrugated cardboard is a surprisingly good insulator., if your dog doesn’t like to chew. I repurposed a dogloo type house for a pair of yard cats, and I completely covered the opening with several thicknesses of cardboard, sealing it tight against the house, then cut a small cat sized porthole at the bottom. Worked like a charm, and the duct tape and cardboard lasted through about 5 winters before it needed replacing.

You can buy pet safe heating pads that are pressure activated, with wire wrapped chew proof cords. Pad heats to something like 60 degrees when animal isn’t on it, then goes higher when the animal lays on it. Will help to heat a too big doghouse if you don’t want to use straw or hay.

Well when I said huge I only meant relative to an average size doghouse. It certainly won't seem cavernous once he's grown. His dad is 165lbs. He'll likely barely be able to turn around in there at some point

The base is a 4x6 Hardi siding pallet with 3/4 Advantech tacked on. The straw bedding would've been fine for me but my wife purchased him a durable XXL dog mattress

if you close that in it will probably be too hot and he will sleep outside of it

Have you considered buy a dog door kit? They sell the replacement flaps.
