I did something like is talked about in the “Dividers” section of the link below. I put them along studs and used pocket holes to secure to the studs. I didn’t have a backing panel, just the wall, but pocket holes into a thick enough backer would’ve worked, too.

I found using cedar drawer liner to line the bottoms of shelves and using cedar edge banding on the fronts of shelves (and/or panels) is a neat touch.

Attached it straight to the studs and then used 16g brad nails to attach the plywood to the top.
