Insulation installation

I have 2x6 attic joist in the attic. The insulation needs to be replaced and clearly more added. 5.5 inches is not near enough. I have 2 HVAC systems with a walkway between. How should I dam off the HVAC? Plywood is my thought. Should I raise the walkway between with 2x12s or just leave it be since is a smaller area? I will also be air sealing, installing baffles, and a radiant barrier.
