Recently bought a Owari Satsuma tree to plant permanently in the ground for next spring. However I am going to have to over winter it until then.

None of my southerly facing windows will allow enough sunlight in due to tall tree lines on my property. Also I have lots of hickory trees throughout the yard and my house is pretty much in the shade almost year round.

I'm thinking about putting the tree either in my work shop or in the spare bedroom until it is time to plant. Anyone have a suggestion for a decent Grow/UV lamp that will provide enough light to up with the plant's needs until then?

Honestly I would just leave it outside and bring it in when we get a good hard freeze.

Or you could place in the ground now. It will be fine if you properly mulch it. I just put a grapefruit tree in a few weeks ago which has a much higher cold temp threshold than satsuma. I have my non-led christmas lights ready to go for tonight and might cover with a sheet but it will be fine. Plus the extra time it is in the ground this winter will allow the roots to spread out.

I agree, I’d just follow this recommendation. No need to over think this. You can also lay it down on the ground and throw a blanket over it on light/short freeze nights. Owari satsumas can tolerate temps into the mid-20s.

Thank you guys. Looks like I'll be putting her in the ground once this cold snap passes.
