They are nearly their end. I've collected quite a few seed heads already. Should I just till the entire thing up or what? Want to plant the same next season. Also, any suggestions on what else to plant. This garden is in the back of the acreage and doesn't have to be "designed".

If you looking to plant cool season annual flowers here is a 3 year old article, to the day, by LSU Ag Center extension horticulturists Dan Gill (retired) that might give you some ideas. LINK

Oriental poppies might be a good one from seeds.

Old zinnias and cosmo, you can pull and compost or just till back into the bed if you can get good soil incorporation.

You don’t really need to till. Tilling disturbs the soil and encourages weeds. Let the patch go fallow, maybe take a string trimmer and flatten anything still standing after the first freeze, or when they all look more dead than alive. You can leave it alone over the winter, top dress with mulch, and scatter seeds next year. Climbing/spreading nasturtiums would be a nice very early season annual to seed before the cosmos and zinnias.

Good information, thanks yall. Second question......local nursery said they have something to spread on flower gardens to kill the invading grasses. Work ok?
