Honeywell Lyric Security Controller and Home Security

So I have been contemplating getting some mild home security measures installed in the house. I don't think I want anything with cameras or automation. I think the wife just wants something that would alarm if someone tried to come in during the night.
We have been given a brand new Honeywell Lyric by a family member and I don't know what the hell to do with this thing. Is this controller a good one to build around? Is it worth keeping and using or are there better options out there worth buying new?
Any home security suggestions in general? I know diddly poo about home security systems.

No expert but after looking for a month I settled on the Ring system. The new version 2 system looks put together like a google or apple product. Cheapest professional monitoring available at 100 bucks a year too. Plus amazon prime day had everything marked way down earlier this week.

I have the lyric. It's fine for what I wanted. I don't have cameras just security. It was easy to setup. I have a contact on every window/exterior door. I get text alerts when alarm is set/unset. You can have multiple codes. It's VERY loud if it goes off in the app and the device itself. If you wanted something louder they do have a siren you can purchase.
