I'm inclined to agree with your AC technician. Buy the cheap, fiberglass filters and replace them frequently.

All of those $11+ HEPA whatever filters cluttering the store shelves are junk anyway. They impede air flow, clog quickly, and wreck your power bill and your system. Really dislike that shite.
